In 1893-1894, the glazed tile factory operated by Prenshaw & Sons made glazed tiles for use at Niagara Falls from their facility on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo Township. This factory closed down after World War II but left behind many artifacts which were preserved and brought back to Gloversville during that time period when they were exhibited at local Historical Societies throughout New York State before being put into storage until recently when they were moved to the Valley Forge Battlefield National Historical Park near Chambersburg PA where they are currently displayed

Gloversville is a village in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 1,879 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester–Monroe Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was founded by John Glover in 1812 and named for him. In 1824, it became a town. In 1898, it became a city and served as its own independent government until merged into Rochester in 1932. The name " Gloversville" has been used since then to refer to both the village and the city of Rochester. In 1647, Jeremiah Wertz took over management of the fishing settlement on Long Island Sound known as Westport (now East Hampton). He built a log cabin there which he called 'Glover's Hall'. In 1768, Wertz sold his land to Hugh Peters who built a house there also called 'Peters' House'. The first store in Gloversville opened in 1806 under the name of 'Jenny Clarke & Co.' It became an grocery store under the ownership of John Fenton before becoming an ice cream parlor by 1915. By 1925, it had become one of three stores in Gloversville that operated with gaslight; other two were 'The Globe' and 'Hutchinson Bros.' grocery stores. One account credits prominent local resident George Hutchison with helping to found what is now Metro-North Railroad within Gloversville limits back in 1911 while another account says it started out as a small farmers market nearby on Main Street where produce from local farms was sold door to door against high prices charged at larger markets elsewhere on Long Island What began as small home-based businesses soon grew into large empires thanks to their networks of distributors who helped them sell products throughout much of New England - even reaching up into Canada!
