In 1814, Glover purchased a tract of land from the Mohawk tribe and named it Gloversville after himself and his wife, Sarah. The town grew quickly because of its location on the lovely Catskill Mountains. By 1830, Gloversville had a population of around 100 people. In 1832, Nicholas Glover died, leaving his estate to his two sons Nicholas and Ebenezer. The brothers divided their father's estate equally between them and developed it into what is now Gloversville Township. In 1846, Ebenezer Farnsworth married Lucy Thompson who made him one of the proprietors of Gloversville Township.
