Gloversville, New York is a small town located in upstate New York. The population was 5,387 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rome, NY Micropolitan Statistical Area and the Utica-Rome Combined Statistical Area. The name "Groversville" comes from "Good Road to meeting." In 1814, the first permanent settler in what would become Gloversville was Nathaniel Goodyear. He platted a land grant for his son William Goodyear and five other settlers on December 12, 1814. By 1830, there were over fifty settlers living in Gloversville. The first store opened in Gloversville in 1836 by Isaac Greenwood and his son Isaiah Greenwood. The store was known as the Green-Wood Store until it closed in 1861 after being damaged by fire. A new store was built on Church Street between 1861 and 1865 by John Sibley and His Son Silas Sibley Sr.. In 1871, George Wertheimer organized the village of Utica into two towns: Gloversville (the original town) and Rome (later Rome). In 1881, when Utica became an independent city, Gloversville remained within Rome until 1895 when it became its own town again underUtica's charter (#325). On July 1st 1898 a tornado touched down near Haightstown just northeast ofGlOVERVILLE while residents were opening their doors to get candy bars from their RaphaeLl Stores that morning; no injuries or damage resulted but several homes sustained water damage which forced closure of one block of Main Street for about four days during early August 1998 On February 24th 2003 more than seventy years after his father founded Gouverneur County with only twenty nine people resident thereon.....Richard Moulder entered into contract with error dated March 6th 1902 for said tract of land three miles square containing . . .about sixty acres containing undisturbed State Forest now lies within limits hereof......Moulder had claimed this section on April 17th 1901 as part of purchase price for 640 acres also included therein .......This tract has been surveyed & patented twice since its purchase date.......In 1922 Moulder sold large piece thereof back to pioneer family who had started farming there .................On November 3rd 1903 Elisha Bemis paid $5 per acre installment plan due May 1st 1904 100% complete ............Bemis had bought 2/3 interest in farm adjoining Moulder's patented property............Elisha Bemis died intestate at age 86 years on October 21st 1913.........He left behind 4 children................Bemis' heirs established Decatur & Company hardware chain here herein following year

Gloversville is a small town in upstate New York, located on the Finger Lakes region of the United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rome, NY Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Gloversville were from England and arrived in 1784. They began to prospect for land in what is now the town and soon founded a school and store. In 1807, John Glover became the first Mayor of Gloversville and served until 1828. He was followed by his son George Washington Glover who served from 1830 to 1837 and again from 1840 to 1845. In 1847, George Washington Glover married Sarah Eliza Whitcomb and they started a grocery store which would remain open until it closed in 1944. In 1870, James Hickey opened a hotel called The Starlite Lodge which would become one of Utica's most popular tourist destinations during its time as an agricultural center. In 1898, Utica elected its first female Mayor – Mary Lyon Dodge (1898-1900). After serving two terms she retired from public life but continued to live there until her death in 1966. From 1902-1905, Drusilla Mudgett lived with her niece Mrs Alice Morse at 9 Elm Street in Gloversville before moving into her own home across the street when it became available. She later established a dispensary for mental health care in Gloversville while living there with her sister Marian Morse Whitehurst (1854-1926). In 1916, Gloversville voters passed an ordinance forbidding discrimination against ethnic or religious minorities within city limits although this policy remains effective today outside ofUtica's official boundaries This law was repealed following World War II when local businesses were desegregated .During World War II many battle casualties were received here due to production at Utica's munitions plants including over 1 million rounds of ammunition that produced more than 10% utICA’s product output
The history of Gloverville, New York goes back to the early 1800s. The first settlers in the area were farmers and their families who migrated from England. In 1823, a group of men from Connecticut purchased land in what is now Gloverville and began developing it into a town. They named their new community after General James Edward Glover, the hero of the Battle of Saratoga. The town quickly grew and became an important center for trade and commerce. By 1830, Gloverville had a population of around 100 people. In 1847, the town was renamed after General John A. Funkhouser, who helped lead Union forces during the American Civil War. After Funkhouser's death, his wife decided to name her new city after him as well – Funkhouser City was founded in 1848. Over time, other names were given to different parts of Gloverville – such as Grosse Pointe (1857), Dover (1863), and Whitehall (1909). Today, most residents in Gloverville refer to themselves simply as "Gloverites."
