Their land was surveyed in 1796 and they named their new settlement after their home village of Glenfiddich near Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1802 they sold all their holdings to John Fenton and his wife Sarah Heckerly for $10,000. Fenton built a log cabin on his property which became known as the Fenton House. He also helped to found the towns of North Aurora and Grayslake in Erie County and served as its first mayor. In 1812 he donated land east of Glens Falls for a school district which eventually became Monroe County School District #2.
