Glens Falls, New York is a small town located in upstate New York. The population was 9,788 at the 2010 census. Glens Falls has been inhabited by the Oneida Tribe since 1792. The first European to visit the area was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. In 1814, Major General George Armstrong Custer and his 7th Cavalry invaded Minnesota and arrived at present-day Glens Falls on July 12th of that year. A cannonball hit one of Armstrong's horses grazing near the village and caused it to die from its injury; this event is still commemorated today by planting a tree in memory of that horse in front of the old courthouse. It wasn't until 1846 when Albany County was formed from parts of Ontario County when residents started moving into what is now Glens Falls from other villages around the county seat of Albany (now Auburn). At that time, there were only two buildings remaining standing in downtown: an old millinery shop and a blacksmith shop which served as both churches and government offices during that time period. The first post office opened in Glens Falls on October 3rd, 1846 with Wm Ladd as Postmaster. It served continuously until it was closed on March 14th, 1904 due to lack of mail traffic; however, those days are long gone for good! On November 1st, 1857, Mrs Mary White organized a Ladies' Rifle shooting match against twelve other ladies who resided in nearby Derby via invitation only shotgun matches would be held every week over winter months until May next year with prizes given for best shot each week's winner taking home $50 worth OF RIFFS! A rifle range/firing ground had been constructed on North Main Street across from current day Union Bank where citizens could practice target shooting without fear of getting injured or worse! On December 2nd 1861 US Army Major General Alfred Stiles arrived bringing orders for troops stationed here about opening up another battery within three weeks fortifying what would become known as Fort Schuyler – previously called Fort George? Glens Falls, New York is a small town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It lies on the southern border of the Town of North Easton and is bordered to the north by Canadian County and to the east by Jefferson County. The first settlers in Glens Falls were farmers who arrived from neighboring Ontario in 1814. They built their homes near what is now Main Street and began growing corn, peas, apples and other vegetables. By 1838 they had also erected a schoolhouse. The community changed its name to Glens Falls in 1868 after General James Halleck's victory at Battle of Pea Ridge over Confederate forces commanded by Brigadier General Robert Ewing in Missouri. In 1892 the Butterfield Railroad linked Glens Falls with North Easton through Indian Territory; this made it an important transportation center for farmers who transported goods upriver to market in Canada. In 1896 Glens Falls became a city when it was incorporated as part of nearby North Easton. At the same time, industry began to emerge as Glens Falls became known for its cheese manufacturing plants (the first being established by John Aiken) and paper products (beginning with J C Rankin’s Paper Mill). In recent years there has been strong growth within the agricultural sector as new crops such as corn gluten meal have become popular among manufacturers of processed foods such as jerky and potato chips

The community was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1807 as "Fallsburg". In 1830, it became "Glens Falls", and in 1857 it became a village. The post office was established at Glens Falls on October 7, 1861, and remained in operation until December 15, 1913. The village had a total population of 592 people when it merged with the surrounding town of Niagara to form the new city of Niagara-on-the-Lake on February 1, 1898. In 1969 Glens Falls voted to secede from the city and become an independent community again under its own name. The vote came about because of complaints from residents about what they saw as discrepancies between the two municipalities' budgets and policies. On July 17th 2019Glens falls will be closed due to a local fire that started near their high school
