Glens Falls, New York is a small town in upstate New York. It is located on the border of Ontario and Monroe counties, about 25 miles northeast of Rochester and 20 miles southwest of Syracuse. The population was 5,500 at the 2000 census. The community has been called "The Village" since its founding in 1884. The first settlers were farmers who crossed the Susquehanna River in wagons to begin their new life in what is now Glens Falls. They named their small settlement after the falls that run near it – Glens Falls being anglicized from Gaelic Guillemots Fach (the Gaelic form for "Falls"). In 1884, Alexander Graham Bell built his home here and made calls from this location for service on his telephone network. In 1906, Glens Falls became a borough; however, it remained a part of Monroe County until 1959 when it became an incorporated village under the name of Glens Falls. In 2007-2008, $5 million was invested into developing downtown Glens Fall's retail base including plans for both an arts district as well as a new library/conference center which will house both local and national events such as American Music Awards and fashion weeks On July 1st 2015, Glen Rock Cemetery opened its gates to visitors aged 10 or older! This significant addition to the community adds even more excitement to what already offers lots of opportunities for fun activities like hiking and picnics!

Glens Falls is a small town in upstate New York, located about 25 miles northeast of Rochester. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Oneida County, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers in Glens Falls were Frenchmen who arrived in 1624 and built a trading post on the east side of what is now Main Street. The French name for the area was la Forêt-de-la-Prairie (the Forest of Prairie). In 1784, Englishmen built a mill on the west side of Route 9 near present day Clinton Avenue and started to process lead ore from nearby mines. By 1800, Glens Falls had become an important trade center with inhabitants importing goods like flour and lumber as well as exporting produce like apples and potatoes to other parts of New York State. In 1834, John A. Armstrong founded the Albany Iron Works in Glens Falls which became one of America's leading steel producers during the 19th century. Together with his brothers Isaac and Elijah Armstrong, Armstrong helped build America's first heavy industry – mills that produced steel products such as rails, bridges and ships – making Glens Falls one of its most important economic nodes during this time period. During World War II, much development took place in Glens Falls thanks to social housing developments begun by Housing Act authorities following Nazi Germany’s occupation of Europe during World War II. These projects included Regal Gardens on Water Street which housed over 1,000 people while Redevelopment Authority buildings such as The Glenlivet (now Riverbend) housed even more people throughout 1947 through 1960 when it became known as Regency Village after being acquired by NewYork City Properties Corporation (NYCPC). As aluminum production increased throughout North America during the 1950s and 1960s due to new technology developed at auto plants all across America aided by strong demand from Convair International for aluminum rails used in jet planes – Alcoa responded by opening its own plant northwest of Buffalo called Mountzite Aluminum Company Ltd., or "Alcoa Mountain" for short – many residents began moving out into suburbia seeking jobs closer to factories rather than staying put where their families lived for generations before them1 . By 1970 however only 2% ofGlens Fallians lived within commuting distance to job opportunities while almost half resided within five miles or less2 . With industrial growth coming to an end following major technological advancements such as those seen at Ford Motor Company’s Automotive Plant adjacent to I-376/I-390 interchange early in this decade3 , many residents began commuting into Rochester or Syracuse looking for better quality life options4 . As today's economy slows down with fewer factories open for expansion along with increases in transportation costs associated with global competition5 , some have argued that GlasFalls may be facing similar challenges6

In 1827, the village of Glens Falls was founded and quickly became a major center for commerce and culture in the region. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century, reaching its peak in population during World War I when it reached over 60,000 residents. However,Glens Falls gradually lost its status as a major center after World War II as technological advances replaced manual labor with machines. By the early 21st century, Glens Falls had fallen behind other regional towns in terms of economic development and population growth. However, some efforts have been made to revive the community through initiatives such as an effort to create a shared public square within the city limits of Glens Falls that would allow for more cultural and commercial activity within the city limits.
