In 1845, Glens Falls became part of Erie County and was designated as its capital city with 1,500 inhabitants; however this number increased only marginally over the next few decades due to droughts and other economic factors outside of Glens Falls' control such as Erie Canal construction projects that disrupted village life somewhat effectively throughout most of this time period; however during World War II many Glasnalls were drafted into service in New York State - some even staying for more than two years - providing them with opportunities that would not have been available if they resided outside of Buffalo or Rochester . On November 10th 1944 local resident Jock Sutherland ignited an atomic bomb test site under Long Island just south of Hicksville while attending school; doing so resulted in grade 9 students from nearby Pine Bush Elementary School walking across county line into NY state without proper clothing or ID badges resulting in approximately 100 arrests along with several lawsuits later filed against Mr Sutherland including one brought by then state senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan , later U.S Rep fromNY Today he is considered one half owner of Madison Square GardenSHAKER FALLS - A TOWN HISTORY FROM THE EARLY DAYS
