Glens Falls, New York is a small town in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Saratoga County, New York metropolitan area. The town was settled by Germans in 1795 and named after Glens Falls in Ulster County, Ireland. The first post office opened in 1824 and the first elections were held in 1834. The name change to Glens Falls when a railroad grade crossing allowed for trains to enter from both directions at once and the name stuck. When Interstate 81 was built through this area in 1967, Glens Falls became an important interchange point as it served as one of four main entrances into eastern New York State. As technology advanced and online shopping became more popular, some residents chose to leave their rural roots behind and move to larger towns such as Albany or Buffalo while others decided to stay put and keep their small-town feel while they watched their community grow. In 2016, Mayor Curt notionally created a city within Glens Falls limits but there has been no formal annexation yet so that annexation could take place only if there are unanimous approvals by all stakeholders – including the mayor – who are interested in having city status quo for now. Curt also likes to think about what he calls "the village" which he believes should have more than 20 businesses with less than 100 people living within its borders as opposed to just 10 or 12 businesses today because that’s how villages should function; not as big cities with lots of housing developments surrounding them like Glens Falls does today."

In 1836, it became part of Albany County. The Village had a post office from 1827 to 1840. In 1842, Glens Falls merged with two other villages – Oneida and Onondaga – to form what is now Monroe Township in Orange County. At that time, there were only three villages left in upstate New York: Rochester (on the western side of Cayuga Lake), Syracuse (in central Syracuse), and Glens Falls. The following year, Glens Falls became an incorporated town when it was granted a charter by state governor David Levy. The town had a population of 1,500 in 1860 but declined to 500 by 1870 due to increasing travel costs for goods brought into and out of Albany County caused by abolitionist agitation around this time. In 1881, Glens Fallis merged with another small village called Southport to form what is now Utica which at that time had about 5200 residents outside of Albany City Limits
The Glens Falls area was first settled by the Iroquois in the 17th century. The town of Glens Falls was founded in 1824, and it became a city in 1857. The city was destroyed by a fire in 1915, and it re-founded as a small town. The towns of Glens Falls and Newburgh were merged into the City of Glen Falls on January 1, 2018.
