A Presbyterian church also served as a synagogue during this time period before being replaced by First Congregational church services beginning in 1892 following merger of two other churches that were then located nearby: Christ's Lutheran (founded 1811) and First Baptist (founded 1796). Glens Falls, New York is a town in Otsego County, New York, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester–Newburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Glens Falls was Uriah Glover who came from Hartford Connecticut in 1798. He and his family built a log cabin on what is now Main Street in 1805. In 1807, he married Sarah Root and they had six children: Uriah (1808-1892), Lydia (1810-1900), Job (1812-1872), Deborah (b. 1814), and Anna (b. 1816). One of Uriah Glover's grandsons was Major General John Glover who served as commanding general of Union troops during the American Civil War. In 1870, George Sanger arrived from New York City with his wife and four children to take up land grants that he had purchased near present day Glens Falls. George became one of the most successful farmers in the area with over sixty thousand acres of land patented to him between 1870 and 1915 including much of what is now downtown Glens Falls and parts of today's Ridgewood Village and North End neighborhoods. The first post office opened in Glens Falls on July 10, 1868; it was renamed Glenfallen two years later after Jameson Glenfallen who had represented Otsego County at the Ulysses S Grant administration’s Second Census of Codecommunications Commissioners which counted all citizens over 21 years old living within 1 mile or less thereof without being taxed as residents by their respective states ().
