Glen Cove is a small town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It lies west of Buffalo on the Niagara River. The town's name is derived from the Glens of Lochalsh (a range of hills) and Lovat (the headland where Lovat Bay enters the lake). The Glens are named for Captain James Glen who explored them in 1785-87. The first settlers were farmers and their families who came to the area in the early 1800s. In 1824, several brothers by the name of Wilson founded a sawmill on Niagara Falls Road which became one of eastern New York's largest employers. They also operated a gristmill and anvil factory in Glen Cove until 1865 when they sold all their assets to John Geddes for $1 million. He was president of Syracuse Railroad Company and helped found New York Statehood as its first governor. In 1872, Geddes erected a fine home at 7 Ferry Road which he called "The Glen". His wife designed it and many other homes in nearby Glen Cove followed suit over time including his final residence, "The White House" which still stands today (1936), after being rebuilt following damage done during World War II. The townspeople built new homes between 1916 and 1936 using what was left of Geddes' old foundation materials; these structures are now known collectively as Old Town Hall Square. In 1924, local officials established a daycare center on Main Street which remains operational to this day under the name Glen Cove Daycare Center & Museum. Other popular activities include annual golf tournaments staged at Pomegranate Hills Golf Course located east of town; swimming - especially freestyle; fishing - both fresh or salt water - including bass fishing off Meshack Lake near downtown; playing softball on Long Island's only professional team (the Glenn Highlanders); skating on artificial ice at Trinity Ice Arena dating back to 1922; hiking along scenic trails throughouttown while taking pleasure trips down abandoned mines known locally as "the glens"; driving around historic townships such as Rosendale or Amherstville; taking walks through rolling countryside laced with ancient forests that date back over 1,000 years ago

Glen Cove is a small town in Nassau County, New York, United States. It has a population of about 8,000 people. Glen Cove was founded by Scottish immigrants in 1837. The town was named after the Loch Ness monster as one of many promotions by the State of New York to encourage tourism in the early 21st century. The first settler in Glen Cove was John McLaren, who arrived with his family from Perthshire, Scotland on October 15, 1837. He built a log cabin on the east side of the bay near present-day Southport Road and First Street. In 1840, he married Sarah Snively and together they raised six children: John (1841-1917), James (1843-1932), Annie (1846-1947), Angus (1849-1920), Donald (1851-1921) and Isabella (1853-1945). In 1859, Methodist preacher Levi Morton came to Glen Cove and organized an evangelical church there. By 1865, Morton had baptized over 1,000 people in Glen Cove alone. In 1868–69 local resident Capt voucher Fenton built a small wooden wharf next to what is now Southport Road for shipping salt water codfish out into Long Island Sound for retail customers at low prices. This business venture led to Fenton's later development as one of Nassau's most successful entrepreneurs during the late 19th century; his stores were known locally as "Fenton's Codfishes." He also developed land around modern day North Harbor that became today's town beaches including North Beach Boulevard and East Beach Boulevard between 1901 and 1903 followed by Sunrise Boulevard extending from Sunrise Point northwest until it reached its current terminus at West Shore Drive near Great Kills Park before terminating again just north of where Live Oak Avenue intersects it today. After World War II much of what is now Glen Cove was annexed by Queens Village located to the east across Babylon Bayou including some homes still standing within their boundaries today along with much infrastructure such as schools including Stonington High School which opened its doors on September 12th 1915
