The history of handguns in Glen Cove goes back to 1857, when Marlin Firearms began manufacturing pistols in this small community. Today, Glock is the company that most people think of when they think of Holsters – and they’re not wrong! Glock handguns were first manufactured here in Glen Cove beginning in 1978. The town has also been home to many notable holster manufacturers over the years including Browning, Bendix, Colt/DeSoto and Sig Sauer. In fact, there are now more than 20 companies that manufacture holsters in Glen Cove alone! Many of these companies have produced some truly innovative handgun holsters which have become staples ongunstore shelves around the world. One such company is Tomahawk Holster Systems which was founded by two local businessmen – Donnelle and Earle Tomahawk – who saw an opportunity to create a unique holster specifically for Ruger “Lone Wolf” revolvers. The Tomahawks started producing their own holsters in 1977 and quickly gained a following among gun enthusiasts all across America. today their popularity continues with products like the SR-4 Tactical Pistol Holster (pictured) which can accommodate any pistol model up to 6 inches barrel length!

The first store to open in the town was owned by J.N. Purdy and operated from 1825-1829. Other early businesses include The Gables (1840), The Belle View (1850), and The Fence (1861). In 1892, Wm Hamer opened his own holster company in Glen Cove and continues to operate today. Starting in the 1940s, pistol owners began using holsters as part of their ordinary carry practice. A number of firearms manufacturers became involved in manufacturing holsters for handguns, including Colt Firearms Corporation (1946), Remington Arms Company (1948), Hogue Firearms Company(1957), and Smith & Wesson Corporation(1963).
Glen Cove is a small town in the town of York, New York on Long Island. The population was 3,765 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Brewster and Sayre Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Glen Cove was Nicholas D'Angelo who arrived in 1785. His wife Hannah also came from Italy and they had six children. In 1814, John McKay purchased 12 acres of land from Nicholas D'Angelo for $1,550. McKay built a log cabin on his property and named it "McKay's Cabin". He lived there until 1840 when he sold his land to George Smith for $2,000. In 1848, John McDermott bought two-thirds of the farm from George Smith for $3,500 and renamed it "Glen Cove". He moved his family to this location in 1852. On July 4th that year, he erected a large wooden frame house which still stands today called "McDermott's House" . In 1861, United States troops burned down McDermott's House as part of an act of revenge against General Ulysses S Grant after he refused to fire upon Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War . The building still stands today as a reminder of that event. In 1872, James Hickey purchased 2/3rds of the farm from Mr McDermott for $4,375 and renamed it "Hickey's Farm". He moved his family to this location in 1888. In 1896-97 William Fenton bought 1/3rds of the farm from Hickey for $5,-750 and renamed it "Fenton's Farm". He moved his family to this location in 1903-04. On May 15th 1904 Congressman James Kapp (R) announced that he would be running for office but did not win because no one wanted him to run because they thought he would be bad news for their local businesses which were doing well under Republican rule at that time... so instead Kapp opened up shop at 711 Main Street with 5 employees! That same year Glen Cove voted Male Female share equally with all other towns on Long Island! When Judge Samuel Zuckerman took over responsibility for zoning laws following Congressmen Kapp’s death in 1905 Glen Cove made waves by voting “No” on an ordinance seeking better transportation facilities through consolidation with nearby Towns Brookhaven & East Hampton! This decision set off heated debate among locals about political correctness vs practicality; did anyone really want better transportation options when they could easily get them elsewhere? The last resident who lived here was Mrs Eleanor Wolkentin who died on November 22nd 2006 at 95 years old! She was preceded here by her parents Anna Wolkentin (1869-1935) & August Wolkentin (1868-1944). Mrs Eleanor Wolkentin is buried next door to her husbandLeo Wolkentin (1900-1968). After her death her son Irving Cramer took over management but problems began soon after as many people were interestedin buying or leasing property within few blocks radius including himself along with others developer David Zuckerberger who leased 1/2 acre near where she once stood . One nightIrvingCramerwasknifedbya robber whilehewasworkingonhispropertynextdoortohimselfandhischild.(This happened January2006justbeforethe demolitionofMrsWolkentinHouse.)DavidZuckerbergerowned711MainStreetwhenheleasedthepropertyfromIrvingCramer.(Hefailedtohurt anyone.)) From then until 2006 there was much discussion about whether or not 711 Main Street should remain open as an active business or be demolished and replaced by a more suitable development., Today only three buildings left standing are: The original McKee Cabin dating back to 1840 just south side street between present day Route 33 & Main Street; The destroyed Hughes House dating back TO 1861 just north side street between present day Routes 33 & 34; And finally Mrs Eleanor Wolkenny's final resting place next door to her husband Leo Wolnenny whose remains are also currently being honored posthumously
