In Glen Cove, New York in 1847, a group of men and boys built the world's first revolving gun. The gun was called the "Glen Cove Gun" and it was built by John Allen. The gun was made to shoot balls that could be turned around by moving them back and forth inside the barrel.
Glen Cove is a small town in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 8,123 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The settlement began as a log cabin on the east side of Loch Laggan Creek in 1814 by David Glass and his family. In 1824 Jacob Hecker settled here with his family. In 1827, when Post Road was first built through this area, the village of Glen Cove was laid out on it and included parts of present-day Syracuse and Utica. By 1840, however, most of what is now Glen Cove had been annexed by Syracuse. Glen Cove became a borough in 1925 and has since been under the jurisdiction of Buffalo City Hall. It reverted to Borough status in 1972 but still maintains its own government with an elected mayor and council members.
One of the earliest firearms to use a swivel was the musket. The weapon consisted of a stock with two circles that were placed at shoulder height, and an attached barrel. A groove was cut into the top of each circle, pushed down through the stock and onto the barrels, then tightened with a nut or screwdriver. This allowed the soldier to rotate his body so that he could fire from any direction without having to move his entire body. The first pistols also used a swivel. The pistol had two metal circles that fit into each other like an egg carton and were attached by screws on one end (the breech). When fired, these carts would rotate so that whichever way you aimed your gun it would fire in both directions at once. This made firing pistols much more accurate than using guns with just one type of firing chamber/stock combination.

Glen Cove is a town in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 9,651 at the 2010 census. It is the largest community in Nassau County by land area and has a population of 12,872 as of 2019. The name "Glen Cove" is derived from the local name for bay - "Gleann Cova".ettlement began around 1800 on high ground between Glen Cove Bay and Lochalsh Bay. A ferry service connected the two bays until 1859 when ferries became available only from Hempstead Harbour. The first store in Glen Cove was opened by Wm Higginson in 1836. He later moved to White Plains with his family and opened a second store there in 1840. In 1851, he built himself a home on Main Street between Islip Road and Oyster Bay Road. By 1870, three stores had been established: Gouverneur & Sons (owned by Moses Cornell), Storey Bros., and Mather Brothers (owned by Elijah Strong). At this time, most of the development within modern-day Glen Cove took place west of Main Street along Oyster Bay Road; however, some residential areas were established east of Main Street including Roosevelt Roads southward into Beachwood Canyon late into the 19th century (the earliest such development being Crabtree’s addition to what are now Roosevelt Roads date back to 1888). In 1885 an express line running parallel to NY Route 6 was built from Gananda Junction northward through present-day Glen Cove through which goods could be shipped directly to Buffalo without going through New York City or Albany; this enabled entrepreneurs like Cornelius Vanderbilt( Owner of First National Bank)to build successful businesses in rural upstate New York during this period without having to go through larger cities like Buffalo or Syracuse which were then much more developed with substantial commercial districts. The original post office building still stands today on Main Street just past Garrison Pond across from Garrison's Marine Emporium (now known as Macy's Department Store). The building served as both the Post Office and Centre Shop from 1885 until 1915 when it burned down due to arson -ane act that also destroyed many other buildings throughout town during that time including Sayre Tavern which stood adjacent topresent day Peconic Park before it too was consumed by fire in 1936ometime afterwhichPeconic Park reverted back fully back under state jurisdiction once again becoming part of Glenside VillageGlenfordsville thereafter . A new Post Office Building was constructed on South Boulevard near where today's Stonington Avenue meets Glenfordsville Boulevard sometime after 1935 while another structure known as Armoury Annex remained standing near present day Ithaca Road until it caught fire August 16th 1959 following years of negligence regarding safety concerns associated with its use resulting in $2 million dollars worth damage done including loss of several hundred artifacts housed thereinincluding one complete set of Corinthian columns dating back over 300 years! Afterglen cove residents successfully lobbied for their municipality status beginning with their first meeting held June 15th1960the village finally Became An official Nassau County Community On November 8th1962 With The Name Of Glen Cove Village Incorporated In Accordance With Laws And Statutes Of That Time
