Glen Cove is a small town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 8,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white settler in what is now Glen Cove was John Ferguson in 1798. He and his family were the first European Americans to live in this area. In 1824, John's son-in-law, Cornelius Vanderbilt settled here with his family and built their house on what is now known as Ferry Road. This original stone house still stands and can be seen from most parts of town. In 1869, a group of Dutch immigrants moved into this area from Utrecht and began to farm land that lies east of present day Glen Cove Harbor. They named their farm "Nieuw Amsterdam". By 1892, all but two of the settlers had died or moved away because of harsh weather conditions (the last being replaced by Japanese Americans during World War II). On March 26, 1901, the Town Board enacted an ordinance establishing a fire department for the new village of Glen Cove; it was later renamed after its founder—John Fenton (1848-1922)—because he had been instrumental in its establishment. The first Fire Department squadrons arrived on April 12th with six men; however only one engine could be used due to defective equipment available at that time. Glen Cove became an incorporated village on December 1st 1902 under the name "Newburgh". On January 1st 1903, it changed its name again to "Galloway" after Jno Galloway (1797-1860), who had donated land for development hereabouts and also served as acting mayor when Mayor Amos Pinchot vacated office temporarily due to illness in December 1902. On October 2nd 1904 Village President Stone laid out boulevard running from north shore up beach until reaching present day Ferry Road/Route 219 just south of Post Office which backs onto NY State Route 431 about one mile wide frontage road leading north then east towards Rochester – originally called Main Street before coming downgraded because Watervliet opened up as much nearer Lake Ontario than Rochester! By 1916 there were over 100 homes within sight along Broadway Beachfront Promenade including several large estates belonging either directly or indirectly to noted citizens such as Cyrus McCormick & Company president Charles Evans Hughes; William Randolph Hearst’s father Elias Howe’s stores at Oneonta Blvd., Syracuse & Genesee Rd.; Wm Tilden’s grocery store (& post office) located across street from current Headquarters Building next door – quite literally “At Home With You!” militia units barracks barracks etc.; some having participated actively both wars thru various clothing supplying companies active duty also such as American Textile Mills Incorporated since 1919 main plant location shifted N/A same building many WWI period photos taken inside today

Glen Cove is a town in Nassau County, New York, on the southeast shore of Long Island. The population was 20,903 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Nassau County. The town of Glen Cove was settled by Dutch colonists in 1664 and became part of the Province of New York after its formation in 1776. In 1814, it was annexed to the newly created village of Oyster Bay. On December 12, 1847, Oyster Bay incorporated as a town under the name Glen Cove with a population of 709 people. The name changed to Nassau County on January 1, 1898 when all southern Nassau counties were merged into the new county. The site for today's Glen Cove was first inhabited by Native American tribes dating back to 1000 BC when they lived along what is now called "the ocean Shore". The tribe that occupied this area known as the Lenape built their homes around eight miles (13 km) from where present-day Glen Cove sits and hunted migratory game such as deer and bear. Over time these groups began trading with other nations and arriving at an understanding about coexistence among various cultures which ultimately led to peaceful interactions between different tribes over time until 1492 when Columbus discovered America hereabouts according to some historians In 1664 Dutch colonists founded what would become Glen Cove after sailing downriver from Manhattan via Governors Walk and then travelling upriver past Fort Amsterdamuis before landing at Gravesend on July 3rd and setting out for Farmingdale Ferry Landing just south of modern day Hicksville; they named their new settlement after Maurice de la Motte Surin who served as Governor General during King George II’s War (1689-1693). At first there were few permanent residents because many people journeyed upriver each year for trade purposes orvisited family members who lived in Jamestown or fortieth century Hempstead beach towns like Great Neck or East Hampton Bechtel Telegraph Company established a line between Westchester Co., NY & Albany Co., NY on October 15th 1784 by order of colonel Robert Morris.. This line extended all along Long Island Sound from Beechamstown northward including close theretoby anchorages within present day Glengarry Harbor/Bayport on Lake Ontario near present day Oneonta/Nassau
In 1792, the area now known as Glen Cove was included in Peekskill Township. In 1847, the township was divided into two parts, and Glen Cove became a part of what is now Westchester County. On October 1, 1859, Glen Cove became a city with its own government.
