In 1890, it merged with nearby Babylon to form Brooklyn borough of New York City; however, Glen Cove continued to operate as an independent municipality until 1911 when it became one of several towns within Borough Park (now Manhattan). In 1917-18, during World War I (1914-18), the United States Naval Supply Depot No 2 (later known as USS Glenn) was located at Greenpoint Harbor near present day Fort Greene in what is now part of Borough Park; this depot supplied munitions to American forces fighting in Europe. also during World War I many Americans who lived inland came down to visit family members serving overseas before returning home via ferry or train back upstate; these soldiers left behind various artifacts such as cars, bicycles and radios which can be seen today at various locations around Borough Park including Greenpoint Harbor where USS Glenn used to dock
