After years of negotiations with Onondaga county officials over annexation into the larger county;Glenn Cove finally accepted annexation into Onondaga county on November 5th 1959 becoming one half mile wide by two miles long with no voting rights granted to residents living inside the newly created limits

Prior to 1923, all village residents were required to attend public school within their respective hamlets - this requirement gradually changed over time as more and more people moved into larger towns and villages throughout Nassau County. In 1961 Glen Cove voters passed a resolution opposing Ulysses S Grant's proposed purchase of land from local farmers for use as a golf course and shopping center; the referendum campaign saw many contentious arguments between supporters and opponents who included clergymen, politicians, businesspeople and newspaper editors along with homebuilders, developers and others concerned about potential job losses if development fell through. Ultimately the proposal died due to lack of support from both political branches combined with opposition from some influential citizens who felt that any large-scale development would diminish their quality of life rather than increase it given how much they rely on nature for sustenance anyways. A store called IGA stands today on Main Street inside what once were the original stores built by developer Robert Moses during his heyday in Suffolk County before he succumbed to cancer in 1967 at age 77 while living near Kingston-upon-Thames (now London).
