The first Europeans to visit Glen Cove were Giovanni da Verrazzano and his crew on their voyage from Venice to Albany on October 14, 1524. They named the bay "Cove" after a small creek they found there. The first settlers in Glen Cove were Dutchmen who arrived in 1654 as part of the Dutch colonization of what is now New York State. In 1795, when Kings County was created from parts of Nassau and Orange Counties, Glen Cove became one of its townships. In 1847, two-thirds of the people living in Glens Falls voted to become a city under the leadership of Mayor James Sweeny; however, this motion failed with only 21 votes out of 50 cast. In 1875, voters passed an ordinance providing for prohibition and maximum employment quotas for female labor and it remains one of the few such ordinances in American history that has been amended or repealed multiple times by voting citizens within a certain time limit Glen Cove's incorporation into village status happened on March 4th 1907 after years efforts by several residents including Jules Demarest who served as chairman On November 2nd 1912 residents ratified an amendment adding power to elect officers without vote by majority while continuing to be governed through village meetings

This prohibition had a significant impact on Ammunition Manufacturers who were able to continue production even during difficult economic times beginning in 1849. More importantly however, it also encouraged civilians to get their hands on arms and join the war effort which helped turn what could have been a bloody conflict into one of America’s most successful conflicts ever fought

After World War II, many of the industries closed down but some new ones have arisen such as Regenerative Medicine which creates plants from tissue samples collected from patients after surgery; this company has since been acquired by Pfizer Incorporated The town experienced several waves of development during its history including: 1) 1867-1912: A time of great growth due to railroads coming through town; 2) 1925-1949: Most intense growth due to airplane manufacturing; 3) 1951-1972: A time of slower growth because of developmental delays caused byillicit drug abuse; 4) 1990s-present: Steady growth due to newcomers Glen Cove has always been home to a large number of residents descended from Dutch settlers who arrived during that era as well as those from other European backgrounds В these include people from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and PortugalВ among others. Today there are also sizable numbers of Native Americans В most notably the Muckleshoot tribe who live on land leased by developers from state government bondsman prior to their purchase in 1984в These natives are said to form a significant minority withintown limits today although they continue perform important cultural functions connected with their ancestorsв Additionally some African American residents have lived here for generations though no full scale race based community exists today outside historical white Creole communities that developed around similar immigrant groups during much earlier times
