One of the earliest extant shooting targets in Geneva, New York was erected in 1793 by Lieutenant Colonel George Washington. The target was a woodedARGET mounting a white field on a red ground, measuring 25-feet wide and 18-feet deep. At that time, there were no other Shooting TARGETS in the town. In 1814, Captain John Cushing placed an X on top of a large tree near the corner of Rivington and Sanson Streets to commemorate his victory over Marshal Beauregard at Castletown Hill. Captain Cushing also donated four cannon balls to be used as targets for shooters located around the town. In 1860, an American flagpole was erected at Third Street and Broadway, marking the first time that a national flag had been flown from a Shooting TARGET in Geneva. The target represented America’s entry into World War I and served as both an advertising and military target for local residents until it was taken down after World War II; it is now located at the Geneva Historical Museum. A new Shooting TARGET opened its doors to the public on October 21st, 1957 - called "The Graphene Target" - with dimensions of 20 feet wide by 12 feet high by 6 inches deep - making it one of only two existing climate-controlled shooting targets in North America! It remains operational today (May 22nd) every year during National Rifle Association Shootout week!

Geneva, New York is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Geneva was founded by Germans in 1795 as "Gleichenbach". It became a village on July 1, 1802. In 1814 it became the towns of Geneva and Gleichenbach. On May 14, 1825 the towns were merged into the new village of Geneva-on-Hudson. In 1831 the villages were again merged into the town of Geneva and it remained so until 1958 when it reverted to its original name of Gleichenbach. The town was first settled by Germans in 1795 as "Gleichenbach". It became a village on July 1, 1802. That year it had a population of 377 people. The first post office was established in Gleichenbach on January 29, 1800; it closed on December 31, 1901. The current post office was opened in Geneva on February 3, 1925. In 1814 Gleichenbach became part of the newly created town of Geneva which had been organized from parts of two other earlier settlements: Haldimand and Weehawken (now called Woodbridge). On May 14th1825 all three settlements merged into one with a population of 517 residents including 115 foreigners – Swiss and French citizens among them – who crossed overriver to become residents for what would be their only period asVillages before becoming full towns under American rule just 2 years later when they were transferred to Erie CountyNY In 1830 both villages formed part of an agricultural district known as Clinton Land Grant No 4 which spanned central Erie Co., extending eastward to Buffalo / Niagara Falls county lines
