Smith & Sons, who continued to produce target holders until 1971. From 1951-1971, Garden City ShootingTargetHoldingCompany made its home at 204 Main Street in Garden City, New York. In 1971, H.C. Smith & Sons merged with Winchester Manufacturing Company to form Winchester Brands Incorporated (Winchester). At Winchester Brands Incorporated, Garden City ShootingTarget HoldingCompany became a subsidiary of the parent company’s American arm, WMRR Incorporated (Winchester Ammunition). In 1984-1985 Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation (WRAC) purchased all of WMRR’s assets including Garden City ShootingTarget HoldingCompany for $10 million dollars. WRAC renamed the company Willow Creek Sporting Goods Co.,Inc., which operated as a subsidiary of WMRR until 1994 when it was sold again to Remington Arms Company (RAM) for $5 million dollars ($100 million today). RAM then rebranded Willow Creek Sporting Goods into Carolina Sportsman Firearms Corp., which operates as an affiliate of Remington Arms Company until 2006 when it was sold once again to Brownells LLC for $2 billion ($220 billion today).

Garden City was founded in 1887 by Andrew Carnegie as a "railroad town" on the east bank of the Hudson River between Poughkeepsie and Schenectady. In 1905, it became a village under the jurisdiction of Poughkeepsie. In 1968, it merged with neighboring towns Schenectady and Albany to form the new city of Garden City. As of the 2010 census, its population was 7,828 people. The first white settler in what would become Garden City was James Wiedeman, who arrived in 1847 from Scotland and settled on land that now includes most of what is today Garden City north-central blocks including bothSide Street and North Street (now Water Street). Wiedeman built his home near where he later platted what would become Garden City's first commercial district called "The Gables." In 1887 when Andrew Carnegie donated land for a railroad station adjacent to his nearby mill complex in Poughkeepsie, he named his new community after himself – Garden City Railway Station (later renamed Carnegie Station). The original village had a total population of only 100 residents; but due to growth along the New York Central Railroad line - which connected Pomona Junction with Buffalo - as well as increased demand for goods brought overland by stagecoaches through Ulster County into New York State from upstate NY during this period (the Erie Canal had been completed two years earlier), Garden City rapidly grew into one of New York's largest villages with 1,100 residents by 1905. There were also several branch lines serving smaller communities within easy reach: One major line ran northwest from Garrison via Scotia to Canandaigua; another ran northeast from Kingston via Auburn Summit Road to Southold; still others served rural areas east and west of Pomona Junction: one ran south from Ithaca via Seneca Lake to Glens Falls; one ran north from Ithaca via Elmira joining up with an already existing line running north from Utica Junction

In 1915, Garden City became one of five communities in Upstate New York (along with Auburn Hills, Batavia, Romeoville and Syracuse) that formed the Town of Seneca Falls under state law designed to promote economic development within rural areas around Albany County. In 1941, during World War II, Garden City became an important site for Army training exercises conducted by General Dwight D Eisenhower at nearby Lake Erie Beach State Park . The town also played a significant role in later wars including Operation Overlord (1944), Gulf War I (1991) and Kosovo War (1999).
The city of Garden City was founded in 1837 by Captain George Washington Doane and his family. The town was named for the Garden of Eden, which is located in modern-day Jericho, Pennsylvania. In 1865, the city was renamed New York City after the New York State Legislature approved a resolution calling for the name change.
