Fulton, New York is a town in the Mohawk Valley of upstate New York, United States. The population was 8,268 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Onondaga County. Fulton was founded by colonists from England on July 4, 1784 as part of the Erie Canal project. It became an incorporated town on December 14, 1814. The first Europeans to settle in Fulton were Englishmen who came overland from settlements in Ulster and Connaught during what is known as the Great Famine of 1785-1786. These pioneers were looking for land that would be available for cattle ranching and farming because privateering had become one of the most profitable activities during this period. A group of men led by George Washington purchased some lots around present day Fulton and developed it into a village called Government Point (now called Gilmore). The new settlers soon realized that they needed to have a store and church to support their small community since there was no market for goods coming down the canal. They also decided to name their settlement after George Washington because he had been so instrumental in helping them secure passage through those disputed mountains between Canada and America when they set out on their journey westward in 1789. Although many people still refer to Fulton as Government Point today, it actually began life as Post Road (later renamed Fulton Avenue) which crossed over Indian Creek near present day Post Road junction with US 2/ Ontario Boulevard before terminating at what is now Mayor’s Park off Route 5 south of downtown Fulton – making it one kilometer wide arterial street flanked by forests until it reached its current terminus at US 2/Route 291 just east of Interstate 490 exit 9A near Oswego Lakehurst In 1814, local residents voted unanimously to incorporate as a town due to concerns about being excluded from future commercial developments within Onondaga County while still living close enough to continue developing their own economy without assistance from larger counties. This decision made possible central business operations for both the townspeople and government officials who could now travel easily between Our Lady’s Parish Church in downtown Fulton and various other governmental facilities located throughout Onondaga County without having to leave their homes or miss valuable opportunities for economic development . In order for businesses operating within our boundaries not only meet zoning requirements but also have access to banking services and other essential municipal amenities such as water supply, sewerage, firefighting capabilities etc., Town Council passed an ordinance providing that all businesses must obtain written consent prior each activity including hiring any Employees.
