In 1840s local farmers began raising cotton using slave labor; this led to development around mills owned by white men until 1861 when Indian raids destroyed most mills along with many homes and businesses including thoseowned by Alexander Hamilton himself. However large-scale cotton production did not resume until 1865 when Andrew Johnson rewarded planters with lands east of Buffalo for their efforts during Reconstruction following the American Civil War In 1830s local farmers began raising corn using slave labor; this led to development around mills owned by white men until 1861 when Indian raids destroyed most mills along with many homes and businesses including thoseowned by Alexander Hamilton himself On October 15th 1886 due to congestion on Route 9 between Canandaigua Junction and Utica canals traffic started flowing upriver on newly built pontoon bridges across Mohawk River named for General Lafayette

Fulton was founded on February 14, 1786 by Nicholas-Jacques Fulton and his wife Anna Maria. The settlement was named after the Englishman Christopher Fulton who had discovered oil in Pennsylvania in 1759. The town was first established on a small island in the river between Manhattan and Brooklyn, but it grew rapidly as breweries and other businesses opened up. In 1814, the town formed a borough with Manhattan and became known as New York City.
