At this point in time, FREEPORT RADIO CORPORATION had become one of the leading radio stations in America and played musical programming such as gospel music, country music, blues music, jazz music and more. In addition to playing these programs, KRKF also aired newsreels and special features throughout the day and into the evening. Throughout its years of operation KRKF has been responsible for helping to spur economic development in Freeport by providing local businesses with promotional programming and advertising space on their broadcasts. Additionally,KRKF has helped to bring many tourists/visitors to town who would then contribute money towards promoting tourism within town limits. 1) In 1951-1952; KRKF Broadcasting Company merged with WHAM-TV & WCBS Radio network; both became part of CBS Television Network 2) In 1957-1958; KRKF Broadcasting Company ceased operations 3) On October 15th 1978 - Freeport Radio Corporation sale goes public 4) On November 12th 1978 - purchase by Emmett J Scanlon's Western Electric Company 5) January 10th 1984 - sale reverts back to KRLQ-FM
