In 1902, Michael Coughlin founded Coughlin's Dairy which remains a prominent local business today. In 1954, Freeport became home to RCA Victor's stereo plant; that same year also saw its first football game as local high school Gryphon won against nearby DeWitt Clinton High School 43–14. The now defunct Hudson Valley Football League played its last season in 1957; however, it can still be seen playing occasional exhibition games at North Park Stadium each fall since then! In 1828, Freeport became part of Augustus when that community merged with nearbyFreeport Township to form one municipality. In 1902, a fire destroyed most of the mills in town; however, one mill continued to operate until it closed in 1969. During World War II, Freeport played an important role as a munitions plant; output reached 1 million tons per year during 1944-1945 alone! In recent years, though local manufacturing has resumed somewhat modestly (a few new companies have opened since 2000), Freeport remains an important industrial center within New York County
