The first rifle range opened up with twelve guns and seventy-five rounds per hour. In 1907, the state of New York appropriated $5000 to establish a military armory in Freeport. The armory was completed in 1912 and it served as the primary training ground for local militias.

The first store on Freeport was a grocery store, built in 1884. The original Freeport post office was founded in 1886. The town of Freeport was incorporated on February 6, 1898. The first courthouse was built in 1904.
