Fredonia is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,531. The name "Fredonia" is from an early settler's log cabin and means "settlement by the river." The first post office in Fredonia was established on February 10, 1824. It was renamed to its present name on October 1, 1881. The Town of Fredonia was organized on April 14, 1827 from parts of the Towns of Clinton and Watertown. On May 22nd same year water prohibition became effective and all residents were ordered to leave their dwellings for three days or face fines of $100 each. Many people chose to stay because they could not afford to leave without being fined and also had no other choice but to leave their homes. However most decided that this type of government control was too much for them so they disbanded their incorporation within two months. On December 5th 1830 Isaac Howells set out with his family from Peterborough in Ontario County into what is now Monroe County under contract with the US government as part of General John Pakenham's Expedition against Native Americans known as the Shawnee War which started on November 2nd 1830 near Fort Wayne (now West Frankfort). Howells' party journeyed overland through what is now Upstate New York before finally reaching what is now Monroe County on January 17th 1830 after spending several weeks camping at various sites along the way including one at present day Sleepy Hollow where he built a cabin which still stands today as a museum-note: This structure appears only from aerial photography) . From here he continued westward across western New York until arriving at Canandaigua Falls on January 25th 1830 after spending several more weeks camping there before continuing onwards into Erie County via Kingston (now Buffalo) . On February 3rd 1830 he reached Niagara Falls after covering some 54 miles over land and water during his journey making him one of the earliest recorded visitors to this area! Aftermath : In order for General John Pakenham's Expedition against Native Americans known as the Shawnee War to be successful it necessary for many soldiers and civilians alike to join forces including Isaac Howells who travelled with General Pakenham's force as part of his personal escort - something that would become common in North America during this time frame It should be noted that due to the high casualty rates associated with these military campaigns many natives such as The Shawnee tribe surrendered rather than fight against British forces which helped pave way for American Expansionism

Fredonia,New York is a small town located in the Catskill Mountains of New York. The population was 6,711 at the 2010 census. The area that would become Fredonia was first settled by Dutch farmers in the early 17th century and was originally called Zandam. In 1772, John Thomson, an American Revolutionary War general and delegate from Fredonia, purchased 1/4 acre of land on the side of Mount Morris overlooking the Pottersville village and founded the village of Thomson. The original name for this location was "Thomson's station." In 1812, Drury erected a sawmill on what is now Main Street in Fredonia Village. This mill continued to operate until 1862 when it burned down due to bad weather conditions. In 1814, Colonel Cornelius Vanderbilt bought 1/4 acre of land east of Thomson's Station and built a log cabin known as Old Fort Vanderbilt on this site which he used as his home and office until his death in 1881. In 1830, Samuel Morse established a telegraph line between Utica (Ny) and Buffalo (NY). Morse donated 200 acres of land near his farmstead in nearby Bolton to create Hamlin Park which became part of Fredonia Village after it was annexed by the town in 1898. “Old Fort Vanderbilt” still stands today as part of downtown Fredonia; it is considered one of the most famous buildings in town. It served as a post office from 1830-1893 before becoming a public library. The first store opened in what is now Elmwood Avenue just north of Main Street on October 12th 1824 by Elijah Satterfield with five barrels stored inside while he prepared for delivery to George Washington who had ordered goods for his new White House. Also opening that year were two blacksmith shops - one on Elmwood avenue opposite Satterfield's store and another near where First National Bank now stands across First Street from Satterfield's store; both shops were operated by Ebenezer Sprague who also owned three rigs working overland transportations during these years'. By 1830 there were ten stores open across NY including six upstate NY stores - all within walking distance or carriages ride from each other!
