Fredonia is a small town in western New York, about 20 miles west of Rochester. It was founded in 1824 by General John Cullum and his family. Ultimately though, none of these proposals saw fruition because NRA lobbyists successfully lobbied against every effort deemed too restrictive (& many times this wasn’t simply due to political powerbrokers deciding what gets passed legislation – quite often those same legislators were also intimately involved with gun manufacturing companies)! However, given that rifle shootings have continued unabated since then (!), there must be SOME connection between SAFETY & GUN OWNERSHIP right!? Right?? RIGHT???

The town was located on the southern edge of the Adirondack Mountains, and it is thought to have been founded by German immigrants. At its peak, Fredonia had around 1,200 residents. The town's decline began after World War I when factories closed in New England and elsewhere, leading to a drop in population and a decrease in economic activity. In 1925, Fredonia merged with neighboring towns of Northfield and White Plains to form a new municipality called Fredonia-Northfield-White Plains. Although at its height Fredonia boasted an active economy, it soon fell behind other nearby municipalities as social services became more important than industry. After World War II, the population of Fredonia dwindled even further as many jobs moved away due to technological advances. In 1947, following passage of the National Industrial Recovery Act, Fredony lost all its commercial sector jobs and experienced a rapid decline which eventually led to its dissolution in 1954. However, some remnants of the community continue to exist today as small businesses within larger municipalities such as Albany or Saratoga Springs.
