The first issue of this magazine was published on October 25, 1811. The magazine continued publication until it was discontinued on December 31, 1886. The "New York Tribune" began publishing in Fredonia in 1871. It continued publication until it was discontinued on September 15, 1893. This magazine had a circulation of over 100,000 copies at its peak. In 1907, the "Aurora News" began publishing in Fredonia. It continued publication until it was discontinued on January 1, 1912. In 1916, Fredonia became home to America's first air-mail service with United Air Lines serving as its carrier mail provider. In 1957, Fredonia became home to America's first university—the University at Buffalo—and has since been one of the most important educational communities in central New York. Today, Fredonia remains a vibrant community with active businesses and cultural venues that provide opportunities for residents to engage with each other and explore their hometowns beyond simply living or working here.

Fredonia, New York is a small town in Schoharie County, New York, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2000 census. Fredonia is located on the east side of Lake George and the west side of Mohawk Creek. It is part of the Utica-Rome area. The first European to visit what is now Fredonia was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. The town site was taken by French colonists in 1614 when they founded Fort Nassau on the present-day site of Fort Niagara. Dutch traders also visited this area early on, but it wasn't until 1715 that a permanent settlement was established at present day Fredonia by General Philip Schuyler under another name - Gansevoort. However, Gansevoort's name would be used for only five years before it reverted back to its original appellation - Fredonia - after George Washington's landing there on July 4th, 1755 during his expedition against France and Great Britain. In 1813, President James Krieger laid out a township for settlers in what is now central Schoharie County according toAstor Place plan which became known as "the original village" or "Fultonburgh". A post office called Fultonburgh was established in 1814 and remained open until 1847; it was then moved to Utica where it operated until 1861 when it closed due to building regulations change made by John Hylan combined with other villages throughout central New York state within the same period (see: Post Office Reform). At that time Fultonburgh had a population of about 100 residents and had two stores/granges; one schoolhouse; one church (Anglican) and two granges/stores were built prior to 1840 whenutiaraenumber increased 50%. In 1840 Alfred Crouse built an academy which still stands today as Oneonta Academy (). On September 11th 1830 – three days after the death of Andrew Jackson – local citizens raised money from subscription lists and erected a simple wooden marker reading “Here lies Andrew Jackson who died October 26th 1830” just east of Byram’s Ford on present day Manchester Road near where he once resided at 6578 Kingston Rd whichstill stands today
