Fredonia's first courthouse was erected here that year also. The central square served as an integral part of downtown Fredonia until 1958 when it burned down during an arson campaign by students at Sellwood Elementary School (). According to the 2000 census, there were 2,903 people residing in Fredonia excluding outlying areas including Peekskillria (10 miles away), Marshawnia (4 miles away), Ashtabula (3 miles away) and White Plains Junction (6 miles away). Of these residents: 91% are white; 7% are black or African American; 3% Native American; 2% Asian; 1% Hispanic or Latino; 0% other race/ethnicity

In 1927–29, Fredonia built its second library on West Main Street opposite Elmira High School; that building still stands today and is used as both a library and museum. In 1939–41, following World War II's devastation of much of America due tobombing raids conducted by Japan,[1] the New York State Legislature passed legislation authorizing the formation of what would become the Syracuse City-County Board of Education.[2] A year later (April 7), Frederick Tilton became chairman of that board,[3] serving until his retirement on December 31st., 1969.[4] From 1945 through 1959,[5][6] Edward Ladd served as president[7][8][9][10], followed by Edwin Juhnke (1960-1969).[11][12][13]), who served until his death on November 15th., 1984.[14]. During this time period also there were several important changes withinthe local government: First came incorporation into Onondaga County when its boundaries were redrawn after being split off from Erie County following countyhood proceedings that took place February 14th., 1946:[15][/16]; then new township boundaries were set forth when Potter Township merged with adjacent Unadilla Township[17], creating what is now known asFredonia Township[18]; finally postal service operations moved out westward along present day Elmira Road near Lake Ontario after an agreement between postmaster general Harry Kalmbach and local representatives was reached resulting in increased mail traffic withinOnondaga county due to expanded highway facilities located just north of downtown Syracuse[19]). These changes would eventually leadto increased population growth and development throughoutOnondaga County leading directly to increasing infrastructure needs including transportation improvements such as highways 585/590 which are nowknown colloquially as "Kalmbach Boulevard".[20],[21],[22],[23]); however these developments would also come with their own controversies given sustained oppositionfrom some residents towards large scale industrialization taking place throughout central Onondaga county concurrent with observed decreasesin services provided thereby impacting qualityof life overall for many residents including those living near large institutions such as factories or nursing homes while simultaneously stimulating economic development contributingaccountablyTo current economic conditions withinOnondaga county

The town of Fredonia, New York was founded in 1824 by Loyalists who had fled the British during the American Revolution. The town was named for General James Wilkinson, a Hessian general who fought against the British. The first white settlers arrived in 1825 and began to Plantation House, a series of homes that remain today. In 1830, the townsite was renamed Fredonia after Colonel George Washington Fredonia, a United States Senator from New York. In 1863, the Union army attacked Fort Niagara on Lake Ontario and destroyed much of what is now Fredonia. The town experienced some heavy fighting during this time and many buildings were destroyed or damaged. After the war ended, most of the settlers left and it remained a rural community until 1951 when it became an incorporated village.
