Floral Park is a small town in upstate New York, located on the eastern edge of the state. The population was 2,098 at the 2010 census. It consists of a business district and two villages, Floral Park and Ossining. The town was first settled in 1792 by Revolutionary War veteran John Snyder and his wife Catherine (née Ramsay). They had 5 children before purchasing land from the then-powerful Livingston family. Floral Park became an incorporated village on Feb. 27, 1892. Municipality meetings were held at home until 1907 when a new courthouse was built on Main Street in Floral Park. In 1916, John Snyder donated land to make way for what is now Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum which hosted many high school athletics games until it burned down in 1984. The current community center opened in 1964 and has been the primary cultural resource for Floral Park since then.

Floral Park is a public park located in the New York City borough of Queens. Established in 1885, it was once an important center for horse racing and gardening in the area. The park now has more than 25,000 acres (10 km2) of rolling lawns, fountains, trees, pathways, and tennis courts. The name "Floral Park" comes from the fact that many of the flower plants found there were brought over by Dutch settlers during the early years of Manhattan settlement. Floral Park was originally part of Newark-on-the-Lake Local Board No. 9 district. In 1885, it became part of Queens Borough as part of an effort to promote development in what was then a rural area around Jamaica Bay. The first president of Floral Park was Edwin Gibbs Ketchum who served from 1886 to 1889; his successor was Hiram Maxim Jaffe who served from 1889 to 1895 and again from 1899 to 1902; and finally Harry Emerson Fosdick who served from 1902 until his death in 1916. A number of famous people have resided or worked at Floral Park including Eleanor Roosevelt, Alice Paul and Franklin D. Roosevelt; actors Cary Grant and James Mason; businessmen William Randolph Hearst and Jay Gould; author Ernest Hemingway; singer Katharine Hepburn; as well as golfers Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus
Floral Park was originally part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. The area now includes much of Queens and Manhattan, and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in New York City. In 1814, Floral Park was donated to the city by Nicholas de Villepin, a French diplomat turned politician. It became a public park in 1851. The first gardens were created on what is now Roosevelt Island, and were designed by Oleander Drinker Copley. The gardens fronting East Seventy-Third Street were opened to the public in 1858; they include a lake, an orangerie, and fountains that cascade down into a large pond. The east side of Floral Park contains four miles (6 kilometers) of trails that lead from one end to another.
