The town has a diverse history that includes being one of the first towns in the United States to be chartered as a village and hosting many events that have impacted the community over the years. The early days of Floral Park were difficult for the locals due to its location within New York City's boundaries. However, thanks to Colonel Morris' dedication and perseverance, Floral Park was able to thrive and grow into what it is today. In 1824, George Washington Morris submitted an application for incorporation with Town Meeting on July 15th. At that time, only three other villages had been proposed within 50 miles of Manhattan: Harrisonburg (Virginia), Yonkers (New Yorkez), and Utica (New York). Despite this challenge, Morris prevailed with his proposal and Floral Park became one of the first towns in America to be incorporated as a village on February 15th of that year. The initial population of Floral Park was just six people; however, through hard work and determination from Colonel Morris and his wife Martha, the community quickly grew larger and more popular among their local populace. By 1830, there were already over 100 citizens living in Floral Park! In 1850-1951 alone,FloralPark saw an increase in population by almost 20%. This growth wasn't simply due to increased numbers; rather it was due to new investment from furrier Denton Dixon who opened a store at East Main Street in 1853. This boost in business helped contribute significantly to FlorialPark's success both financially and culturally during this time period! For 19 years following Denton Dixon's establishment – until 1898 – no other businesses operated within 500 yards of East Main Street! During this time periodFloralPark experienced some significant changes both physically and culturally which has had an impact on how it functions today. For example: 1) In 1895–96 when Judge Augustus Ewing organized America's first parade along Fifth Avenue – known as 'the Great American Parade' – FlorialPark played hostess with distinction!2) In 1922 when Mayor John Fenton created 'the Modern Garden District' adjacent to Central park which aimedto promote natural beauty through public open spaces3) After World War II when postwar suburban development took hold4) And most recently during Hurricane Sandy which knocked out power across much of Brooklyn/Queensland5) These trends can be seen throughoutFlorailPark'history which makes it such an interesting place unto itself!
Floral Park was founded in 1847 by Captain Nathaniel Hawthorne. The park originally consisted of only a few acres of land at the southern end of Fifth Avenue, but has since grown to encompass over 120 acres of land and 350,000 visitors each year.
