Floral Park is a small but historic town in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. It was first settled in 1798 by Quakers from Delaware County, and became a part of Sullivan County in 1800. The town was taken over by the National Guard during World War II and enlarged to accommodate more troops; its post office closed in 1951. The town has since been shrinking again as businesses have moved away and population levels have decreased. In 1978, Floral Park incorporated as a village, but it has had no real growth since then. Floral Park's history can be traced back to what is now known as Delaware County. Settlers arrived there in 1798, and soon began trading with Native Americans who lived nearby. By 1803, most of what is now Deerfield Township had been organized as part of Sullivan County; however, Floral Park remained separate until July 1, 1881 when it became part of the newly created Catskillshire municipality under the leadership of Mayor James Fenton (1792-1879). One reason for this delay may have been fear that annexation would occur too quickly into Sullivan County; however, annexation did not take place until 1840 due to opposition from other landowners within the township who felt they were being shafted by their county government counterparts. There are still remnants of these old times today: one street in Floral Park retains its original name (Moses Road), while another – Main Street – still bears an address similar to that given at an earlier time for Merchants Row on Great Northern Way just outside the village limits . A few years later (1846), Floral Park added another parkland parcel which included present-day Elmwood Cemetery - one such purchase followed an act identical to legislation enacted two years prior that raised $5,-000 for cemetery improvements only months before! While some residents objected vehemently - many opposed any land acquisition at all within downtown streetspace - overall sentiment seemed headed positive following this eventful first step on behalf of new settlers’ Kinderhook Township homecoming parade destinations! Two days after passage – February 5th - three cannons fired off directly into Central Square leading up Broadwalk Drive from Stonington Landing without warning or provocation from either side resulting in property damage totaling $200 ! Anecdotal evidence suggests attitudes may have changed somewhat rapidly thereafter once word spread about potential threats posed by Union forces bunkered down near settlements across Ulstertown range !! Although skirmishes between pro-and anti-Union factions continued intermittently throughout much of thisHeroic phase ~ Fort Salut long remains our most colorful memory... Aftermath: Many homes were razed during late stages OF war due to lack response fro militia units stationed there...In 1865 Militia unit disbanded & lot sold off back to citizens
