Floral Park is a small town in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers to Floral Park were Dutch people who settled in what is now Elmira in 1764. By 1800, Floral Park had a population of 350 and an academy. A post office was established in 1824 and by 1830, it had a population of 1,000. In 1868, the village of Floral Park incorporated as a town and continued to be governed by its own board of trustees until 1975 when it became part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area. In 2002-2004, the village passed a referendum asking for annexation by the city of Buffalo; however this request was denied due to public opposition from residents in Floral Park who felt that their community would become too closely associated with Buffalo. Today, Floral Park has a shopping center (the FloralPark Center), two churches (Church on Main Street and First Presbyterian Church), two tennis courts (Nassau Community Tennis Courts), one golf course (Floral Hills Country Club), two schools - Stroudsburg Day School and Northside Intermediate School - as well as several businesses including Wegmans supermarketsanchor Waterside Market & Moreuther's Hardware store and three restaurants - The Bluegrass Tavern which serves Americansized cuisine from Kentucky; Second Avenue Gastropub which specializes in Americanized Chinese cuisine; and Pizzeria Bianco which offers Italian-style pizza). The Village also includes 2 homes detached from the town center for use as villas or holiday rentals. Although there are no services located withinFloralPark itself such as library or grocery stores, most villagers rely on either Wegmans or Walmart for basic needs such as food staples.

Floral Park is a small town in upstate New York, located on the border of Saratoga County and Chemung County. The population was 4,872 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Mohawk Valley since 1627. The town was first settled by German immigrants in 1778. They named their community Flora Park after one of their family's six children who had married into a wealthy Dutch family. In 1809, Flora Park became part of the newly formed Saratoga County and lost its autonomy when it merged with other counties to form New York State in 1821. In 1850, Floral Park was renamed for General James K. Polk during his candidacy for president because he saw it as an appropriate honor for what he considered to be an honorable military career that spanned many years including service in Mexico and Cuba. After Polk won the election and took office, he visited Flora Park twice before leaving for Washington D.C., where he served as president from March 4-November 8, 1850). After Polk's death in 1851, his wife Laura received a gift from her husband – two acres (0 hectares) of land near present-day Floral Park that would become known as "Polk Place". The location today is occupied by a private home called Laura Bush's House which overlooks the park's main Lawn where President George H.W._George W._Bush delivered his historic address on November 8th 1990 commemorating....the 50th anniversary of America becoming an independent country! According to local legend, General James K.'s daughter (Laura) wanted to name her new home after her father so she could visit him often; however she only ever made one trip to Washington D.C., so there is no direct evidence confirming this claim but it seems likely given history’s tendency to remember historical events through stories passed down from those who lived through them rather than through primary sources such as records or interviews
In 1857, Floral Park was donated by Major General George Washington to the City of New York. The park was originally known as Prospect Park and it served as a public open space for citizens of Manhattan. In 1876, the area around Floral Park was annexed by New York City and became part of the new city on Long Island. In 1898, Floral Park underwent a major renovation that included the installation of wrought iron fencing and a new tennis court. The park also received two additional acres in 1907. In 1922, Floral Park was renamed after Mrs. Alice Bogan Griggs, who had donation money from her father-in-law, Colonel John Doolittle. Mrs. Griggs served as president of the University Club which donated $5,000 to help improve Floral Park's infrastructure and features including a boat basin and an artificial waterfall. In 1951, FloralPark received another donation from Mrs. Griggs when she gave $50,000 for the construction of a reflecting pool inFloralPark's north side called Flamingo Pool which is still in use today!
