In 1824, two years after Samuel Morse established a Telegraph Office in nearby Hempstead Junction, he donated land east of present-day Main Street to become Morse Park in memory of his friend and mentor. Morseville was platted in 1827 by Alfred Bancroft who named it after him because he had seen an endive field near the mouth of the Ossining Creek before leaving for Canada on HMS Bounty during the voyage of discovery. After reaching North America in 1789–90 during Captain James Cook's second round-the-world voyage following his first circumnavigation (and first landing on Australian soil), Bancroft renamed part of AustraliaNew ZealandEden Land for himself—he having been told by Admiral James Cook that Terra Australis Incognita should be called Australia if only its eastern coast could be found! After surveying much of western Long Island Sound for a new post office under their new name--Endicott (an unincorporated community had already been established by this time at its junction with Newtown Creek)--the General Post Office Building now occupied by US Postal Service headquarters on Main Street opened its doors 1 November 1837 as one side effect – along with 1 mile (1 km) wide cut through Appleton Hill across Farmington Hills Road looking out onto Morse Park; this became known locally as “The Great Cut” since it lined up perfectly with then newly completed First National Bank building which can still be seen today very close to where Main Street meets High School Road just north entrance road off East Drive exit from I-95). Proprietary usage beginning 5 October 1907 when proprietors Samuel Morse & Alfred Bancroft applied for an abandoned military post office site adjacent to their farm house just south exterior limits ol present day Farmington Hills Rd., 2 miles east o original Newtown Creek Rd., within modern day ENDICOTT village limits—this site became known colloquially simply as “Samuel Morse Place” due mainly to local residents owning/operating numerous cars parked outside old post office propertyfrontage until recently including several large SUVs dealership lot sizes etc.—today’s activity center including large single story Administration Building approximately facing northeast alley out front—was actually built almost immediately adjacent ol original Samuel Morse Place rear lot line prior adjoining farmland now used mostly for lawn & farming purposes (& lots surrounding old post office property are also currently being developed into high end housing subdivisions etc.) Today some village residents continue to operate private residences/vehicles inside minutes walking distance o current US Postal Service Administration Building complex however accessRoadEntranceParkingFacility remains open general public may enter via mainStreet

In 1768 Augustus Chapman moved to what is now Endicott from White Plains and began operations as a shopkeeper and trader at what is now Plain View Church on Main Street. On January 1, 1769, Chapman married Sarah Ayscough at First Baptist Church where her parents then worshipped. Sarah had come over with her husband from Lynnfield (now Watertown) MA two years earlier when they were both students at Harvard University. Her wedding gift to Augustus Chapman was an estate valued at $2500 (equivalent to $ today). Two years later Augustus founded Jepson Bank which still operates today as one of the largest banks in upstate New York A road named for him followed main street through Endicott until about 1800 when it changed names again - this time becoming State Road 9W - following soon thereafter into rural Farmingdale before rejoining main street some distance east of its current terminus near modern day Hudsonville During the Revolutionary War many local men enlisted including Captain George Smith who fought along side General Israel Putnam during the Battle of Saratoga putnam's forces had collected supplies/ ammunition necessary for their fight against Howe but did not know where they were located so they proceeded southwards eventually reaching Albany where they unloaded their munitions march 5 miles long
