The Town of Endicott was platted in 1868 by local families who were residents of nearby Utica and Presque Isle townships. The original name was Weathersfield but it quickly became known as Endicott after one of the founders, John A. Endicott, donated land for a school in 1874. In 1903, the community erected its first frame schoolhouse which still stands today on Main Street. In 1907 the town annexed neighboring Watertown to form a new municipality with a population of 10,000 people and an endowment from Andrew Carnegie that provided $15,000 per year for schools in Endicott and Watertown; this Municipality would eventually be renamed Niagara Falls after then-President James K. Polk’s donation to Niagara County (and also known as Niagara Falls Township). In 1928 the village of Sleepy Hollow merged with neighbouring Whitehall to form another municipality with a population of 25,000 people; this Municipality would ultimately be renamed Lewiston after Lewiston Mayor George H. Lewandowski’s donation to Niagara County (and also known as Lewiston Township). On October 1st 1966 when New York Statehood Exact Time ran into difficulty due to sparsely populated areas within its borders, Governor Nelson Rockefeller called for an executive order creating two municipalities—Endicott and Sleepy Hollow—in addition to Utica and Presque Isle Townships within what had previously been New York City Townshiplimits; this Order resulted in Endicotti’s incorporation into newly formed Erie County on November 3rd1966 when all other communities within city limits failed to adopt similar legislation† (*See “ Municipal Dumps: Why Were These Towns Incorporated? ”). Endicott, New York is a small town in Erie County, New York, located about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Buffalo. The population was 9,564 at the 2010 census. Endicott is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what would become Endicott was founded by Abram and Nahum Morse on October 7, 1805, near present-day Canandaigua Lake. They were successful farmers and traders who established a ferry service across Canandaigua Creek to their other holdings in western Erie County. In 1827 they built a log cabin on the east side of Canandaigua Lake for themselves and their nine children. The Morse family name is perpetuated through Endicott's downtown business district which is named for them - the Morse Business District. Abram Morse later served as Mayor of Buffalo from 1840 to 1845; he also donated land to establish the State University at Buffalo in 1847. In 1830 John Marshall started farming on farmland that he had bought from Nicholas Biddle two years earlier. He became one of Endicott's most distinguished citizens and served as Supervisor of Schools from 1846 until his death in 1862. His grandson George Washington Marshall (1865–1950), an American politician and four-time United States Secretary of Defense under Presidents Franklin D Roosevelt and Harry Truman, had his home in Endicott sold to raise money for World War II effort when it entered into receivership after the war ended without any victors being appointed over Japan’s surrender efforts In 1861 US forces burned down much of Hawkins Tavern which lay just south of Main Street between Ernie Griggs Road/Hawkins Tavern Rd./Moses Avenue/Oak Street where now stands Hawkins Elementary School
