Endicott is an unincorporated community in Rockland County, New York, United States. The population was 913 at the 2010 census. It is located on the west side of the Village of Endicott. The village first formed in 1835 when land from two other villages was sold to make way for the town of Endicott. In 1857, a post office called "Endicott" was established and remained in operation until 1959. The name derives from Englishman Samuel Morse's observation that "the end of every road should be signposted with 'E' for Endicott'. Morse had discovered a valuable telegraph line near Plainview." In 1886, a schoolhouse and church were built on what are now Main Street and Park Avenue. In 1907, a new government center was erected east of the old schoolhouse on what are now Cemetery Road and Orchard Lane. That building still stands today as the Administration Building for Rockland County Government which is also used as a polling place for local elections. The community experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its proximity to military installations such as Bar Harbor Naval Base and White Sands Missile Range. Despite this growth, no major development took place until after the war when several businesses opened up including a grocery store, restaurant and doctor’s office all within walking distance of one another on Main Street. Today there are few active businesses but plenty of people who live close by enjoying their shared cultural experiences or just taking it easy on weekdays around noon or 2pm in front of their homes on Sunrise Drive off Route 22nd Street (formerly known asMain Street). 2

Endicott is a small town in western New York, United States. It was founded by the Dutch in 1658 and named for Hendrick Venter, a wealthy man from Rotterdam who donated land to the town. Endicott's population peaked at 24,000 in 1925 and has since shrunk to fewer than 10,000. The community of Endicott sits on a hill overlooking the Hudson River valley and was originally known as "Holland". The first settler in Endicott was Nicholas Kappes, who arrived in 1658 from Holland with his family. Kappes built a cabin on the site of present-day First Presbyterian Church. In 1660, John Dickinson settled here and began growing maize crops. By 1800, there were about 20 settlers living in Endicott. In 1825, the Erie Canal completed its journey through this region and soon brought many workers and their families to Endicott. Many new businesses were established in Endicott during this time including J B Yeoman's grocery store (later taken over by Walmart), Wm & Mrs Fenton's millinery shop (later closed), Wm Higginson's bakery (now closed), G P Miner's distillery (now defunct), several churches such as First Presbyterian (founded 1799), Second Presbyterian (founded 1812), Christ Episcopal Church (1828) and Methodist Chapel (1836). In 1865, when Buffalo & Niagara Railroad reached EndicOTT from Buffalo via Kingston upon Hull(N/A - railway not completed until 1872) it became an important stop for goods moving between Buffalo and Syracuse/New York City. The end of the railroad led to decline of industry once other modes of transportation became available.

The post became an important center for fur trading and agriculture, and during the Revolutionary War it sided with the British. After the war, Endicott became a key commercial center, hosting a number of industries including flour milling, tanning, lumber production and woolen manufacture. In the 1920s and 1930s Endicott experienced significant growth as a result of its role as an agricultural center and its status as a major shipping port. Today, Endicott is considered a historic district that includes several downtown streets and numerous contributing buildings.
