Endicott is a town in northern Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 19,853 at the 2010 census. Endicott Village is the only incorporated community in within the town limits. It is located on the eastern edge of Endicott and on Route 9 north of I-95. The first settler in Endicott was Gideon Putnam in 1798. He named it for his friend and mentor Jonathan Putnam, who served as a delegate to the First Continental Congress. Jonathan's grandson Moses Putnam founded what became Rochester Institute of Technology in 1847 and donated land for that purpose; he also endowed many other colleges and universities around New York City. In 1892, Josiah Warren opened Copley's Department Store on Main Street in Endicott village; this store later became one of America's largest department stores. In 1907, John Ayer bought 640 acres (240 hectares) east of Endicott village from George Eastman for $10,000; this land would become Ayer Park today. From 1908 to 1912, Ayer ran an agricultural experiment station near present-day Poughkeepsie along Route 9 called The Valley Experiment Station; during this time period he experimented with new farming methods which would later be patented and brought to market by him and others such as Monsanto Company founder Josephine Mason Roach (1861–1948). Erick Thygesen started a small paper mill near present-day Poughkeepsie which still exists today making paper products such as envelopes and postcards but closed its doors in 2006 after over 100 years production He also founded Empire Paper Products Co., now Dominion Paper Products Incorporated based out of Baldwinsville NY before selling their operations to Corning Incorporated in 2016 Thygesen had been working on developing a new type of paper made from recycled materials since 1905 when he met Alfred Eisenstein while working at Eisengrund Glass Works outside Hamburg Germany where Eisenstein was researching high quality glass than could be produced without damaging the environment

It was chartered on July 1, 1825 as Endicott Village by the State of New York. The first post office in Endicott was established on December 12, 1828; it closed on February 14, 1865. The present Post Office building was built in 1907 and includes a gift from General George Washington that hangs above the door. For many years Endicott had its own school district but this ended in 1912 when all of Otsego County became part of the new Monroe County School District
