Endicott, New York is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 10,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1795, General James Clinton and his army burned down the mills on the east side of town to prevent Native Americans from taking over the land. The post office was established at Endicott on July 1, 1814. The town became a Village of Purchase in 1855; it became an incorporated municipality on May 15, 1889 with a population of 11,090; and it became an unincorporated village again on April 25, 1907 before its merger into Endicott Town. On November 3rd 1905 voters passed a resolution to name the new endowment college after Senator Charles Wicker (R-MS), one of their own from Mississippi who had been elected as senator from New York in 1904 until his death two years later citing "the very great need for higher education" within their community as one reason for his being given this honorific title despite not having attended any college himself or serving as anything more than an advisor to that institution during his time there. In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson announced he would be traveling through upstate New York during his stay in that state and offered if anyone wanted to stop by Endicott they could do so without fear of being arrested because he said: "I am not going to interfere with private enterprise."
