Endicott is a small town located in western New York. It was founded in 1824 by George Washington Endicott and his wife Anna Maria Smith. The Endicott family had originally come from Norwich, England. Endicott is now a census-designated place (CDP) and the population was 9,472 at the 2010 census. The town of Endicott was named after George Washington Endicott, who settled there in 1824 with his wife Anna Maria Smith. At first, the Endicotts only operated a farmstead, but soon began to develop their land into what is now known as Endicott County. In 1836, they erected a courthouse and jail on current Main Street in downtown Endicotta. George Washington's great grandparents were John Morse and Susanna Morse Beecher, who immigrated to America from Yorkshire, England in 1795. Their parents were also Americanized British immigrants: Susanna Morse Beecher became Esther Morse McKinney and John Morse became United States Senator from Michigan Territory (later Michigan). The end result of this immigration was that many of George Washington's ancestors had direct contact with both English-speaking Canada and America – something that would play a significant role during his life. In addition to their farming activities, the Endsicoats also supported local churches throughout their lifetime; some still serve today as ambassadors for Christianity in Eastern Europe or Africa. After their death in 1853, however,their descendants largely stopped contributing financially to these institutions until after World War II when they again made an impact through philanthropy. One significant event in early history of the town was when General Jonathan Teal fought against Native Americans at Battle Creek on July 8th., 1812 while under command of Commodore James Ketchum III aboard USS " Chesapeake". This battle marked the beginning of Indian Wars across much of North America which continued until 14 years later with the signing of Treaty Of Fort Erie which ended hostilities between the Iroquois Nation and Great Britain
