Endicott is a small town in the town of Rockville Centre, New York. Endicott was founded in 1854 by Philip Augustus Endicott and his wife Beulah. The original home of the Endicotts, now known as the Mrs. A.H. Endicott House, is a National Historic Landmark. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Endicott is located on the southern border of Nassau County and has a population of about 12,000 people. The majority of its residents are white (93%), but there are also sizable minorities: black (2%), Chinese (1%), Hispanic (3%), and American Indian/Alaska Native (1%). The community's name comes from an estate called "Endineck" that once stood in central Endicott Village, which today is part of the town center. Philip Augustus Endicott bought the land in 1854 for $6,000; he named it "Endicott". Beulah EndicOTT later donated additional land to make up what is now downtown Endocotti village. The original homes in downtown were two-story frame buildings with single-car garage doors that opened onto small driveways leading to large backyards; these houses are still seen throughout much of downtown today. In 1916, when downtown became part of Rockville Centre proper, many old residential buildings were demolished and replaced with modern structures designed by architects John Davenport & Sons.. One such structure remains extant – The Mrs A Hendricotte House – which was built in 1907 for wealthy local woman Mrs .A H Hendricotte as her country home during World War I when she served as president pro tempore at Congresswoman Millicent Fenner's wheeler room table government office building on Long Island City Boulevard near Times Square then Roosevelt Avenue near Park Avenue South then Broadway between 45th Street - Northern Boulevard - Southern Boulevard - 5th Avenue North latitude line thence down 1/4 degree West longitude line to point where those streets crossed 2nd Avenue North latitude line thence northeasterly along 3rd Ave North latitude line thence easterly along 4th AveNorth latitude line thence westerly along 5th AveNorth latitude Line thence northeasterly along 6th AveNorthitude 30 degrees East longitude lines thereto joining at right angles...thus giving rise to our present name "EndicOTT". From this estate purchase onward until 1959 when it was sold again to another family member - David Ehrlich - all property within Beginick boundaries had been known simply as "Enderick", while any adjoining properties were designated by their respective landownership: farmer George Enderick owning east side extending from south side bisected by Third Road northward to Second Road east thereof; house builder Julius Enderick owning west side from First Road southward unto Third Road east thereof; storekeeper Abraham Enderick owning northeast corner extending from FirstRoad southward unto SecondRoad east thereof; milliner Anna Enderick owning northwest corner extending from FirstRoad southward unto ThirdRoad east thereof). All these different ownerships led eventually one day to one man's hand being held over several acres surrounding Downtown endiecotta- lots included including lot number seventeen belonging presently to David Ehrlich who purchased it back Original owner(s) unknown Map dated January 1888
