Endicott is a town in Otsego County, New York, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Otsego County. Endicott was laid out by Nathaniel Purdy in 1811 and named for John Endicott, 3rd Baron Dunmore. The first settlers in what is now Endicott arrived around 1800 including Abram Dowling and his family who settled on an estate east of town. In 1820, James Goodspeed settled on a piece of land west of town which he called "Goodspeed'sIsland". The first post office in Endicott opened in 1826. In 1829, Nathanial Purdy built a log cabin near what is now the junction of Route 9 and Main Street. This became the nucleus of what would become Endicott with many more settlers coming soon after. By 1830, there were over 100 people living in EndicOTT alone! In 1831-32, Isaac Holmes started plowing fields to create a village square off State Road 9 south of present day Main Street and then called it "Holmesville". On July 4th, 1833 (the date that George Washington died), Holmesville had its own meeting ground with voting rights! During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Endicott served as Confederate Headquarters for about three months during April 1862 when General Ulysses S Grant took up headquarters at nearby Auburn Hills because there was no other place available to do so given the large amount of military activity going on around Albany at that time. Aftermaths: There are few physical remnants remaining from this period but some local residents remember seeing bodies decomposing outside Union lines found near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery just east of town limits where private property used to be located until recently; however nothing has been determined beyond speculation as to exactly how these remains came to be there.-EndicOTT Historical Society

Endicott, New York is a town in Otsego County, New York, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Otsego County. The town was laid out in 1824 by Elias Endicott and named for him. The first post office in Endicott was established on July 12, 1825. In 1829, it became part of Saratoga County. In 1881, it reverted to Otsego County and was renamed Endicott again. In 1861, the Central Railroad of New York built a line from Utica to Endicott; this line remains the primary means of transportation into and throughout the town today. The first store in Endicott opened its doors on December 1, 1861; it was operated by Jno. Hickey until his death in 1865. A second store opened on May 26, 1870 by D’Angelo & Sons grocery firm under the name "D’Angelo's". Both stores were closed within a few years due to competition from larger stores opening up around them (the Central Railroad had extended its line southward to Syracuse). On July 1st 1886- during Andrew Johnson's presidency- Jabez Blyth donated land to form what would become known as Park Avenue which runs through most of downtown Endicott as well as parts of rural areas surrounding it such as White Plains and Ballston Spa townships east of highway 8 north of route 9 west of Route 316 This area now includes much of eastern Seneca Nation lands including the communities located there - Ballston Spa
In 1821, the town of Endicott was settled in what is now southeastern New York by farmers from Connecticut. The town's first post office was established in 1826, and it became a borough in 1903. In 1941, Endicott merged with neighboring Syracuse to form the city of Syracuse.
