Many other families also came to Elmira during this time such as those owned by Julius Rosenwald who built Friends School which still stands today as one of Elmira's most popular attractions; Ferdinand Hoesch who started Guggenheim Glass Company; Myron Cushing who founded Cushing Truck Lines; Averill Gardner whose paper company produced newspapers across America;and Isaac Seagramswhose distillery made spearmint liquor then evolved into Diageo whisky production beginning in 1903/04

On July 8, 1922, City Council voted 3-2 to merge with neighboring Town of Canandaigua (renamed East Syracuse after World War II). At that time, Canandaigua had over 50 years of experience as a thriving commercial center while Elmira only had 10 years of existence; however, annexation persevered until 1952 when it became part of Buffalo along with other smaller municipalities within that city limits. Today, downtown Elmira is one ofBuffalo's most vibrant neighborhoods with stringent building codes limiting apartment development near railroad tracks; nevertheless, many businesses continue to operate due to their location proximate to shopping districts such as nearby Madison Square Garden or Fifth Avenue Shopping Center which offer high quality restaurants and nightlife options nearby
