He started making firearms in 1824. In 1828, he started manufacturing shotguns. This company continued to make firearms until the late 1800s.
Elmira is a small city in Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 17,839 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Niagara Falls Community School District and the home of Elmira College. The first settler in what would become Elmira was Cornelius Vanderbilt who arrived in 1814. He donated land to create the town of Elmira on July 4, 1819. The town had no municipal government until it was organized as a village by an act of the New York State Legislature on November 10, 1825. On April 7, 1860, during the American Civil War, Union General Ulysses S. Grant's army overran and burned down part of Elmira while it slept; this event became known as "the burning of Elmira". In 1865–1866 the railroad came through town and changed everything – from millinery to farming – but also brought industry with it: factories for making shoes and hats, sawmills for timber and lumber, a theater (the first in upstate New York), breweries (two) and two hotels/motels. In 1863-1864 there were also three churches in town: one Congregationalist (founded 1824), one Presbyterian (founded 1826), and one Methodist (established 1830). After 1865 things slowed down as new industries were developed or replaced: shoes were replaced by rubber manufacturing after 1880; farming became more diversified with production now coming from dairy products, appleseed oilseed rape crops such as canola or sunflower seed oil production which stopped around 1960; various health services such as physician's offices started up in that time period; tourism increased with both sports events like golf tournaments being held at local academies or summer resorts like Oneonta becoming popular tourist destinations due to their beautiful lakeside settings etc.; however these changes did not lead to job growth since many companies moved out oftown when competition got too high etc.: today most residents are self-employed entrepreneurs rather than working within traditional companies The total area annexed into Buffalo by Niagara Falls Community School District decreased from 3 square miles (.86 km²) when it joined on September 1st 1959 to 2 square miles (.51 km²) when it left on August 15th 1984 . . . On December 6th 1990 all school districts plus Air National Guard Base formedNiagara Falls Joint Intermediate Unit No.(1). This created a triangular shaped district that included all three communities combined which has since shrunk back again although some businesses have recently opened up near I-190 & US Route 9W Bridgeport so residents can still get close to their jobs!
