On July 15, 1898, when Mayor James McKnight enacted zoning laws to create new areas within Queens Borough between Jamaica Bay to the north and Fordham Road to the south, he included East Meadow among these new boundaries - at that time all but one square mile (0.6 km2) of present-day EastRockaway were annexed into Queens when Queens Borough was created from parts of Brooklyn Heights, Manhattan Beach and The Bronx on April 1st that year. As part of annexation ceremonies held at Ranney's Hall on Roosevelt Avenue near Collegetown Manor off Jamaica Bay on September 6th one thousand citizens participated including delegates from cities like Buffalo Niagara Falls Buffalo Sayre Utica Syracuse Rochester Elmira Farmingdale Ithaca Allentown White Plains Schenectady Albany Henrietta Amherst Somersworth Troy Ogdensburg Kingston Nyack Peekskill N/A
