In 1915, two brothers named Harry and Al Shook started a small business called The Cleaners in East Rockaway on Long Island City Road (now Sunrise Boulevard). They were first responsible for keeping all of Brooklyn’s handguns cleanseable – including those used by law enforcement officers! This was an early example of gun-cleaning services being offered outside of metropolitan areas such as New York City. East Rockaway is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Queens, New York, United States. It is located on the eastern bank of the East River between Corona and Jamaica Streets. as of the 2010 census, its population was 33,711. Its zip code is 11215. The community was named for John Demarest East (1798–1880), an American banker and politician who served as delegate to the New York State Assembly from Queens from 1851 to 1854 and as Mayor of Brooklyn from 1857 to 1860. The first settlers in what would become East Rockaway were Methodist Episcopal missionaries who arrived in 1795. The original location of the community was on Staten Island but it moved to its current location on Queens' east side after becoming part of that borough's limits in 1898. In 1916, developers Harry Heineman and Edward Jaffe built what would become known as Heineman's Reef beachcombing area at the mouth of Bell Pond which became a popular spot for swimming due to its clear water and strong currents. In 1934, Heineman donated land at Bell Pond's southern end for what would become Roosevelt Field which later became home to Major League Baseball's Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. A local paper reported on January 13th, 1922 that "the new municipally run post office has been established at East Rockaway with mail being delivered by boat". This marked one hundred years since postal service first arrived in this area through horse-drawn carriages serving Islanders living on Long Island Railroad lines extending into New York City proper..

In this paper, we will discuss the history of gun cleaning techniques and how they have changed over time. One of the earliest methods for cleaning a firearm was by using boiling water and soap. This method caused so much damage to metals that it was eventually abandoned. The next step was to use a brush or cloth to clean inside and outside the barrel. This technique did not work very well because it left behind dirt, dust, and other debris on the weapon. Eventually, an improvement was made which used warm water and soap combined with a toothbrush-like instrument called a “façade” (Figures 1-3). This method worked better because it removed all residues from inside and outside the barrel without leaving any black slag on top (Figure 4). Another innovation in cleanliness became known as “pouring” or “streaming” cleaning techniques (Figure 5). These procedures involved pouring hot water onto the weapon at a controlled rate until all dirt, dust, etc., had been washed away (Figure 6). The advantage of this method was that there were no chances for residue to accumulate on top of the weapon like with traditional brushing or façade cleaning methods. The final method which became popular during World War II was called “dishwater” or “soap scum” cleaning techniques (Figures 7-9). This approach involved pouring hot soapy water onto the weapon until all traces of dirt, dust, etc., had been eliminated (Figure 10). The advantage of this technique was that it didn’t require any special equipment such as a dishwasher or faucet; everything could be done remotely using an electronic cleaner

East Rockaway is a town in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2000 census. The town was named for Easton Point on Long Island Sound where the first post office was established in 1824. The village of East Rockaway was founded by Dutch settlers in 1785 and had a population of around 100 people before it was destroyed by a fire in 1807. In 1865, the town of Easton Point merged with nearby West Egg to form the new town of East Rockaway. The name "Easton" comes from an Indian word meaning "to rule over." The original platted land for the current town of East Rockaway was located east of present-day Main Street and north of Long Island Sound. In 1824, James Kapp donated 5 acres (20,000 m²) to the Town Board for use as a public square. This square is now home to many local businesses including PNC Bank and Post Office Park
The area that is now east of Rockaway Peninsula was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1624. The peninsula was purchased by the British in 1764, and became part of Queens County, New York. In 1814, the population of Queens County exceeded 1 million people and the United States acquired it as part of the Louisiana Purchase. On July 27, 1898, New York and Puerto Rico signed a Treaty which ceded all but about 2 square miles of eastern Puerto Rico to the US. This left only a small enclave on the mainland side of Rockaway Peninsula with a population of just over 100 people. On November 9, 1954, following an election in which General Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected President of the United States, the US Congress passed legislation creating East Rockaway Park as a public recreation area within Queens County. The park's first president was Driscoll Wickersham-Kendall who served from 1961 to 1966. In 1974–1975, construction began on what is now known as Arthur Ashe Stadium for tennis play at East Rockaway Park and it opened in 1976.
