The evacuation from Dunkirk began on Friday night, May 8th 1940 when Allied troops landed at Normandy beachhead following three days of bitter fighting between Nazi Germany and allies over control of France's Atlantic coast. More than 1 million people were evacuated over seven days and eventually reached England or Scotland where they were interned or incarcerated under various conditions before being transported back to France for further occupation. Another 1 million people also fled across German frontier into Holland but only 400 residents remain in Dunkirk today (2009). Many jobs that would have been lost due to industry closure during World War II such as agriculture and fishing were preserved because they could be brought back online slowly through reemployment programs that were initiated immediately after hostilities ended; however many other industries such as textiles closed down completely after 1945 because there was no demand for goods produced within wartime Europe postwar! Town officials then appointed Mr. John Culp who served four terms without ever achieving any tangible progress regarding reconstruction! In 1990 French forces attacked our nation's borders resulting in 3 years long war which cost over 50 thousand lives with more than 100 thousand military dead including many civilians - all without any warning or provocation from either side? This event led to creation of NATO & subsequent European Union!!! With so much tragedy happening during those three decades almost nobody really cared about rebuilding what little had been done aside from a select few individuals who benefited financially! Consequently most people living in rural areas surrounding large cities are unaware that anything occurred at all outside their towns& villages!!
