In the early 1800s, Dunkirk was a small town in upstate New York. It was home to a handful of farmers and their families, as well as soldiers from both the American Revolution and the War of 1812. The town's only means of defense was its small arsenal, which had been built in 1794. When Dunkirk was evacuated during the September 11th attacks, many of its residents were forced to leave their homes with nothing but what they could carry. As a result, many of the guns that had been stored at the arsenal were lost or damaged in the evacuation. However, some of these guns were eventually recovered and used by local law enforcement during the investigation into the September 11th attacks. In particular, some guns used in connection with this case include a rifle that belonged to United States Marshals Deputy Director Timothy J. Rayburn and two pistols that belonged to Detectives Michael Pfleger and Nicholas McGowan. Today, Dunkirk is an important community located within New York's busiest city limits. Its location makes it essential for local law enforcement efforts in keeping order during busy periods such as holiday weekends and concerts; as well as for providing emergency response services when needed. Dunkirk is on the narrow neck of land that separates Niagara Falls from Lake Ontario. It occupies a small peninsula on the north side of the falls and stretches along both banks of the Erie Canal to its eastern edge just east of Toronto, Canada. The first Europeans to set foot in what is now Dunkirk were French fur traders who landed in 1604 and 1607. The area then belonged to the Iroquois Confederacy but by 1779 it had become part of England after its victory in the Seven Years' War. In 1797, during the American Revolution, troops from Canada landed at Dunkirk as part of General James Wolfe's army advancing into America following his success at Quebec City. In 1814-1815 British forces under Lord Howe attacked and destroyed Fort Erie; this event became known as "the Battle of Dryden's Key". In 1847-1848 English soldiers burned down many buildings in Dunkirk due to an outbreak of cholera which had spread through Europe during those years; this event became known as "the Burning of Dunkirk". For more than ninety years until its destruction by fire in 1951, Dunkirk housed one or more industries including tanning dark hides (especially beef), blast furnaces (manufacturing coke) and clothing mills such as Jockey Lace & Woollen Mills Ltd., both founded in 1849; these mills were soon replaced by other businesses such as papermaking and textiles although some production still continued up until 1971 when all industry ceased except for a few light textile products with local suppliers. A post office was established at Dunkirk on November 26, 1813 (one year before Kingston). A steamboat company was chartered on December 12th 1861 renamed "Queen Charlotte" and sank on January 5th 1862 off Dunsterport beach after hitting rocks while racing against time for disembarkation at Queenstown; her loss has been estimated at $2 million dollars ($ million today). On July 9th 1916 two days before World War I ended with armistice signed near Amiens Germany by German Chancellor Kaiser Wilhelm II there was an air raid over Dunkirk killing 30 people including 10 children aged 6 months old who were playing outside their homes; this event became known as "The Great Air Raid Of 1916". Dunkirk Naval Base () which functioned between 1923 - 1945 served also as home port for HMS Victory which took part in World War II operations off Normandy coast ; she was decommissioned in 1946 after serving primarily with convoy escort duties off Newfoundland waters until she sunk August 8th 1946 with all hands listing inside her decks unloading munitions destined for Germany during World War II . From 1947 - 1958 HMCS Antigonish served concurrently aboard HMS Victory while HMS Ark Royal served alternately squadron Leader training RNVR pilots during summer weather conditions only ..... latter ship reverted back to Portsmouth Navy Yard once conditions improved.. ... However no new destroyer ever arrived here .......

Dunkirk, New York is a small town in upstate New York. It was located on the east side of the Niagara River, about 15 miles northeast of Buffalo. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. Dunkirk is now part of the City of Niagara Falls. The town began as a small village named Dunkirk on October 7, 1814, when American Revolutionary War Veteran and Loyalist Captain James Prentice organized a group of settlers to found Dunkirk after traveling downriver from Canada. The first settler in Dunkirk was George Washington Potter who arrived in 1816 with his family. Potter built a log cabin and fished for mullet and catfish in what is today's downtown area. In 1830, local miller Nicholas Crampton established a gristmill that produced flour for local merchants and farmers in nearby villages such as Canandaigua and Tonawanda. Dunkirk grew rapidly during the early 19th century due to its natural resources: rich sandstone quarries near by and easy access to water supplies from both the river and Lake Erie. By 1840, it had reached its current size with over 100 residents. In 1846-47, Dunkirk became home to one of America's first Thanksgiving feastivals when more than 2,000 people gathered at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church to celebrate Protestant Christianity's holiday observance against Roman Catholicism (known then as Christmas). On July 24, 1940, just days before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor,, Dunkirk residents watched as U-boat #39 sank an American merchant ship off their shoreline while Allied planes were scrambled to bomb Japanese targets inside Japan The town went into lockdown as patriotic Americans attempted to alert their neighbors across Turtle Bay that war was coming soon; many did not believe it would be any different this time around since America had been through so much trouble recently - but they were proven wrong when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor less than two weeks later on December 7th 1941 For six months following the attacks on Pearl Harbor locals boarded buses every day heading inland towards Amherst or Rochester where they would work in factories set up within minutes' drive outside of Tokyo; all but one person died from radiation sickness contracted during those months living close contact with Hiroshima natives
