The village had a post office from 1811 to 1840, but it closed due to low mail volume. The last residents left Dobbs Ferry on December 8, 1971.

Dobbs Ferry was a small hamlet on the east bank of the Hudson River in Westchester County, New York, United States. It was named for General James Dobbs, an American Revolutionary War officer and general of militia. The hamlet was located in what is now the town of Brockport. The first settlers in Dobbs Ferry were farmers who arrived from Long Island in 1795. The village had a population of about twenty-five people when it became part of Westchester County. In 1802, the U.S. Congress passed an act which created Rugby School District No. 5 and gave the land to that school district. This act also provided money to purchase land at Dobbs Ferry for a new post office and saw the first use of stamps in Dobbs Ferry when they were issued to residents to pay their taxes on October 16, 1802. The original structures in Dobbs Ferry were two log huts which served as posts for mail delivery between New York City and Brockport during the late 1800s and early 1900s. A larger structure was erected around 1901 by Jepson Brothers Hardware Company, which later became known as Post Office Park Incorporated (POPI). POPI included a three-story brick building with a ten-foot high tower housing an elevator and other amenities such as a movie theater, restaurant, gift shop, post office store, playground/bathing area and basketball court. In 1916 Uniontown Savings Bank built a two-story addition to its then existing building at 69 East Main Street which served as both the bank's offices and its main function until 1978 when it closed its doors permanently due to financial difficulties caused by heavy competition from newer banks across Ulster County including First Niagara Bankshares plc., Bloomingdale's Department Store Co., Schenectady Trust Co., Franklin National Bank & Trust Company et al.. In 1977–1978 state Senator Malcolm Smith sponsored legislation that made Popi into one large brick building once again serving as both bank's offices (the only remaining frame from this period being used as part of features inside), except that this time it housed Broome Community College instead of local community colleges like Community College Southwestern NY or Polytechnic Institute; howeveronyNC State Senate Bill No 1292 did not make it through committee stage before going up against Governor Mario Cuomo vetoed it on December 3rd 1987 after he learned about its content This outcome led to state Senator Smith taking over operations himself until his death in 1993 . After state Senator Smith's death much construction activity stopped because there simply wasn't enough money available anymore from government coffers either due to inflation or changing priorities within Albany making old projects like POPI difficult or even impossible to rehabilitation . However some renovation work has been done on parts of POPI such as expanding heating/cooling systems throughout including adding new roofing repairs etcetera while others are still pending such as restoring electricity services along with plans for additional retail space if needed once redevelopment occurs .. currently all but one window is boarded up
