The first firearms were used in Dobbs Ferry, New York on October 6, 1792. The first gun battle in the area took place on October 12, 1792 when a group of militiamen belonging to the patriot militia fought against British troops commanded by Colonel John Sullivan.
Dobbs Ferry is a small town in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 1,847 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Syracuse–Fayetteville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlers in Dobbs Ferry were farmers who came from Rhode Island in 1674 and 1675. They named their farm "Dobbs Ferry." In 1777, Colonel John Armstrong led an expedition against the Mohawks and burned their villages at what is now Crown Point on Lake Ontario. In 1802, Captain James Sullivan built a wharf on the south side of the river at present-day Dobbs Ferry for loading and unloading ships. He named it Sullivan's Landing after himself and his brother-in-law, General James Sullivan Jr., who had commanded American forces in the War of 1812. By 1825, all commercial traffic had ceased along the river due to navigation difficulties caused by rapids near Niagara Falls. A post office was established in 1777, but it never received any mail because no one lived near enough to pick up mailmen twice a day! In 1827, William Hickey opened a store on Main Street which became a popular stopping place for travelers coming downriver from Syracuse and other towns on their way to Buffalo orNiagara Falls as well as for merchants with goods to sell along the route between these two destinations. The first train arrived here on November 12th 1907 when three steam locomotives pulled by horses left Auburn (now Auburn Hills) for Rome Junction where they changed cars at Canandaigua Rail Road Station before continuing northbound through Syracuse to Buffalo where passengers disembarked and took another bus back home via Rochester or Seneca Falls then walked back home again! Today there are still many tourists visiting Dobbs Ferry because of its beautiful scenery including its excellent restaurants; retail stores; casinos; go-karts; water sports; golf courses etc..

Dobbs Ferry was a small town in Ulster County, New York, located on the south bank of the Hudson River. The community was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1827 and developed into one of the most important commercial and political centres on the north shore of the river. Dobbs Ferry is also known for its annual Fourth of July celebration and for its role as an important transportation hub on the Great Lakes region. The first settlers to Dobbs Ferry were farmers who arrived from Ireland in 1827. By 1830, there were six businesses in operation at Dobbs Ferry: a tannery, a millinery shop, a grocery store, flower stores, and a post office. In 1834, three men–Jurors John McDermott (the first postmaster), Daniel Prentice (the second postmaster), and James Tompkins (the third postmaster)–founded what would become Dobbs Ferry Institute to promote education among Irish immigrants. The institute became an important provider of educational opportunities for Irish Americans throughout New York State. It also played an influential role in developing America's largest Gaelic speaking community outside of Ireland. In 1861, after years of development work by various organizations including the Gaelic League and United Irishmen, Dobbs Ferry was officially incorporated as a village with a population of 205 residents. The following year saw the opening of its first school – De Valera School – which remained an important part of local life until 1975 when it closed due to budget cuts at local government level. During World War II, Dobbs Ferry played an essential role in supplying munitions to Allied forces during Operation Overlord; as well as providing food and lodgings for troops during their stay ashore on Manhattan Island. After the war ended, many former military personnel settled in Dobbs Ferry which helped contribute to its revitalization process following decades of decline; today it continues to maintain strong ties with veteran communities across New York State through events like reunions festivals and military appreciation days.)
