Cady McCormick who renamed it "McCormick's grocery store". In 1906 Jno. Cady McCormick donated land for a public school which became known as Dobbs Ferry High School; the building was completed in 1907 and served as operational headquarters for many years before being replaced by a new high school built on land adjacent to current-day Main Street in 2009. According to the 2000 census, there were 531 people living in Dobbs Ferrytown proper (the incorporated area bounded by North Patterson Avenue on the north, East Third Street on the east, South Patterson Avenue on the south, and Chenango Boulevard on the west), plus an additional 161 residents who lived within 1 mile of town limits but not actually registered with local government. Of these residents 9% self-identified as “minority” according to Census 2000 data - this number increased to 15% among those ages 25 and over during 2006-2010 due largely to suburban growth within town limits; however minority status has decreased somewhat since then (10% now) due mainly to increases among white residents (from 48% in 2000to 64%) .
