In 1902, the Depew Rifle and Pistol Club purchased land near the present-day intersection of Park Avenue and French Road for a new rifle range. The club also constructed a pistol range on this property in 1903. In 1912,Depew Rifle and Pistol Club took over operation of what is now called “The Lighthouse” gun shop on lower Main Street. This store was used as a clubhouse for both the rifle and pistol clubs until 1967. In 1934,Depew Rifle & Pistol Club merged with two other local organizations to become The Gun Owners of America (GOA). GOA remains an active member organization today.
Depew is a small town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on the Mohawk River and its ZIP code is 14214. The first European to visit Depew was Matteo Ricci in 1614 when he stopped here for supplies on his journey from Niagara Falls to Albany. John Montresor also visited during this time and wrote about it in his travel book "A General History of New Netherland". In 1764, Major George Washington passed through Depew while on his way to Fort Stanwix in what is now Ontario County, New York. He noted that the area "Is very fertile" and decided to build a military post here as he feared British attacks along the frontier. In 1768, Washington's successor as Commander-in-Chief of America, George Clinton moved an army camp from Dutchess County, New York to within one mile (1 km) of Depew Creek for protection against French incursions into our country from Canada. The first store opened in Depew by Solomon Banker in 1812; at that time there were only two stores open in all of Western New York State! The town continued expanding rapidly until it reached its current size with over 6500 residents by 1850! Depew’s growth came about due to several factors: 1) ample free land available due to the Panic of 1837 which caused prices for food to skyrocket; 2) easy access to transportation via horse or wagon roads; 3) growing demand for manufactured goods generated by industries such as flourmills and tanneries; 4) continual influxes of immigrants – most notably Germans who had come south during the American Civil War – who brought their own ideas and culture with them when they moved into new areas; 5) Scots-Irish who had come back home after living away from Ireland during much of their childhoods arrived beginning around 1840 and helped contribute greatly to depopulation rates among Indigenous Americans living nearby

Depew was a small town in Snyder County, New York, United States. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern border of the county and is bordered by Appleton to the north, Hebron to the east, and Oswego to the south. The first inhabitants of Depew were French colonists who arrived in 1624 and founded a trading post on an island in Schoharie Creek. In 1814,depew's name changed from Sodus to Depew after surveyor John Depew became interested in its potential as a future town. The first settler was Nicholas Bendixen who arrived about 1786. By 1820 there were only 150 residents living inDepew proper with a few farming families scattered among them. The society of mechanics organized themselves into two societies: one for artisans and another for farmers; but their efforts did not bear fruit until 1827 when James Crouse erected a gristmill which became an important factor in local economy due to its capacity to produce flour at high wages. By 1840 there were over 100 residents living within limits prescribed by law fortownships then consisting of six square miles (15 km²). In 1848 citizens of neighboring towns petitioned Albany County officials to annex part of Depew so that it could share resources with its larger neighbor but no action was taken because Albany had grown too large for smaller towns like Depew without having any impact on their size or development status. A decade later, however, an attempt was made again when Depews lawyer Nathaniel Adams applied for annexation but this time he received approval from county commissioner Augustus Chandler despite objections from other landowners around town who feared that enlargement would lead to increased traffic and economic competition that would ruin their businesses. Ultimately, annexation failed because Albany grew too large for any single incorporated community within its boundaries- making it difficult for smaller towns likeDepew which relied on agriculture as their primary source of revenue not only economically but also politically speaking- leaving them vulnerable as agricultural societies become increasingly dependent on city governments or other forms of municipal support while rural communities nucleate around urban ones during times of boom or bust boomtowns have been able to maintain healthy growth rates despite limited government assistance
