Depew, New York is a small town located in Erie County, New York. The population was 6,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls- Toronto metropolitan area. The first settler in Depew was John Smeaton who arrived in 1788. The town was organized on February 11, 1812 and named for General James A. Depew who fought against the British in the War of 1812. In 1825, Jonas Estes opened a gristmill which soon became an important local industry. In 1830, Samuel Latham built a sawmill and store in what is now the eastern edge of Depew village square. This mill continued to produce lumber until it burned down in 1893. The Panic of 1907 destroyed most local businesses and led to a period of economic decline that persisted into the 1920s. However, during this time there were also some successes such as Depews first professional football team which played from 1923 to 1933 and then again from 1951 to 1957 (the team was renamed as the Buffalo Bisons after moving to Buffalo). Depew gained its current name when railroad development began nearby in the early 1920s; depots were established at Appleton and Gambiertown Roads which included access to water supplies unavailable elsewhere within Erie County and made it possible for settlers near by to boom crops while still being within easy reach of marketplaces. "The growth of transportation brought about new opportunities for enterprise not available before," declared one contemporary historian; "and with it came changes both social and economic." As fruits grew more accessible throughout Western New York due to improved transportation infrastructure, prices for goods fell alongside production costs while demand increased for lumber products shipped eastward around Lake Ontario." After World War IIDepews economy flourished as manufacturing resumed along with resurgent growth rates outside agriculture (manufacturing output reached $2 billion by 2002). By 2006 however joblessness had begun creeping back up once again as many factories closed their doors due to technological advancements such as 3D printing which has forever changed how products are produced but also creates wealth beyond what traditional manufacturing methods could offer

Depew is a small town in the Catskill Mountains of New York, United States. The community is located within the Town of Oneida and is part of the Oneida County, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,611. The first permanent settler in Depew was David Wilhelm Depew (1792-1860), who arrived in 1814 and built a log cabin on West Genesee Street. In 1825, Depew joined what were then two towns - Oneida and Schoharie - under the name of "Oneida Township". The first post office in this township was established at what is now known asDepew Village on December 12, 1827. In 1881, Oneida County was formed from parts of Schoharie and Onondaga Counties. The new county had no town or village within its boundaries but it did include several villages along its western border including Depew which became part of Nowata County on February 14th, 1888. On January 1st, 1907depew incorporated as a city with a population of 2,541 when all former Onondaga Towns were consolidated into one municipality by order of Public Act 522 (March 11th 1907).
